Castle Rock is a small city in Castle County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1875 by John Dickey and named after Rocky Mountain Pass which run through it. The first post office opened in 1876. In 1895, the City Lake formed when a reservoir was constructed across from present day Castle Rock Boulevard and renamed Castle Rock Lake. A second lake was created in 1938 when Watkins Glen Dam upstream from the original City Lake became operational as Boulder Reservoir. Today, only 0.1% of all water usage comes from Mansion Park Reservoir located on east side of town line within limits of both cities; however, that facility continues to play an important role due to its location just south of I-25 and various parks & open space within close proximity including: Bear Creek Park with 9 miles (14 km) of hiking trails access via several loops including one loop that circles around town – making it one of most popular park areas near downtown Denver; Palace Gardens Golf Course following artificial turf fairways around a large central greenspace with tree-lined streets offering privacy while enjoying views down Toehoma Creek; Riess Athletic Complex housing Arena/Golf course/ apartments/club house with indoor driving range/multi-purpose room for parties etc.; later developments included: Anschutz Medical Campus adjacent to existing University Hospital In recent years, discussion about changing or removing some aspects or allusions to Rocky Mountain National Park has been heated up as some residents feel this would erode community values while others believe annexation would not result in any loss or gain other than increased development opportunities nearby without any increase in taxes paid by citizens (or businesses). Castle Rock is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. Castle Rock is located on the east side of the San Miguel River, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Fort Collins and 20 miles (32 km) west of Greeley. The first people to live in what is now Castle Rock were Kit Carson and his family who arrived there in 1867. The first post office wasestablished here in 1868, and the town name derived from a rock that stood near the original courthouse square. In 1903, it was renamed for Major General John J. Pershing because he had fought in Mexico during World War I as a U.S. Army colonel and then became an American general after the war ended. From its beginnings as a trading post on the riverbank, Castle Rock grew into a full-fledged town by 1920 when it developed its own water supply and began to attract settlers with its good location—near both Fort Collins and Greeley—along with its ample agricultural land and easy access to transportation links. By 1930, CastleRock had more than 1,000 residents and had become an important center for education within Weld County; it also functioned as an economic development center for surrounding rural areas through various industrialists who built businesses here such as meatpacking plants, paper mills, cheese factories and other manufacturers throughout the 1940s–1970s
Castle Rock was founded in 1868 by Colonel John Atkin and his wife, Lucy. The first settlers were the McNaught brothers, who arrived in 1869. The town was named after Castle Rock, a mountain range located in Scotland. In 1886, General Philip Sheridan's army invaded Colorado and sacked the town. Castle Rock was rebuilt and renamed Fort Lyon after the fort's commander. The town declined until the early 20th century when it began to experience a population growth due to its strategic location between Denver and Boulder.
