Castle Rock is a Rocky Mountains town located in Kane County, Colorado, United States. The population was 8,851 at the 2000 census. Its name is derived from the nearby Rocky Mountains. The first people to live in what is now Castle Rock were the Arapaho and Cheyenne peoples. After European contact, traders and travelers called it "Rocky Top" or "Rocky Mesa". In 1876, Arapaho Chief Washakie travelled to Fort Bridger on the Canadian Rockies and reported seeing high mountains with an unknown shape near Castle Rock. This led to the name being given to this locality by General George Armstrong Custer when he visited fort in 1877. In 1886, Major Edward Haggerty built a military post at Castle Rock which overlooked eastern Kane County. The post served as a base of operations for Indian scouts during theoptimistic days of gold mining in that area. It was sold in 1907 to Baron Edmond de Rothschild who renamed it Rothschild's Castle Rock Ranch after his friend and business partner Maurice Rothschild. The ranch remained in operation until 1949 when it was sold to Pabst Brewing Company and became part of their brewery grounds today known as Coors Field). Although not always associated with brewing purposes (the earliest beer produced there dates back to 1885), Castle Rock has been home to several other businesses over time including: real estate; banking; insurance; retail trade; veterinarian practices; grocery stores/markets; printing presses; cinemas; and numerous other small businesses developed over time within its close-knit community fabric which continues today through tourism opportunities as well as social interactions among residents from all walks of life who appreciate its unique character both locally and nationally!

Castle Rock, Colorado is a small town in the Douglas County seat of Centennial. The population was 538 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Junction metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Castle Rock was John Sutter, who arrived in 1849. He and his family built a log cabin on the east side of the creek that flows through town. In 1875, Sutter's son, George Washington Sutter, erected a large stone lighthouse on Castle Rock Creek to guide navigation during times of fog or darkness. In 1886, Captain Arthur Stroud purchased what is now Castle Rock from John Sutter for $2,000. Captain Stroud had come to Colorado from Massachusetts with his wife and children to claim land grants given out by President James K. Polk as part of the Compromise of 1850. The Strouds were among many pioneers who found success in this new state – they became leading citizens of Centennial and founded other towns and villages throughout Arapaho County. Captain Arthur Stroud also established one of Centennial’s most famous businesses: The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG). He donated land for its tracks near what is now downtown Centennial and served as director for its construction; he also invested heavily in real estate development within town boundaries until his death in 1906. One such early resident was Hyrum Smith, who moved to Castle Rock from Fort Collins in 1907 after buying an interest in The Denver Post newspaper company which then became known as Rocky Mountain News Corporation (RMN). Smith played an important role both at RMN and later at The New York Times Company where he served as executive vice president from 1973 until his retirement in 2000 – he was then succeeded by his son-in-law Bill Gates. Today, much of historic center including portions of North Main Street between Second Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue are open to public visitation via free tours offered daily 9am-5pm; extensive exhibits about local history are available at various locations around town; plus there are several restaurants serving up Albuquerque-style chili dogs or American Legion picnics on Saturday morning when all manner of events happen outdoors like arts shows etc.; it's easy enough if you know where to look but mostly just wander around because it's really charming place
