Castle Rock is a small town in southeastern Colorado, United States. The population was 3,453 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Aurora-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Castle Rock" comes from two sources: one says that it was named for Castle Rock on the Arkansas River, which was then called Rocky Mountain Top (the peak being located about due east of present day Castle Rock), and the other source claims that it was given its name by Major General James H. Kit Carson while he was stationed in Fort Collins in 1876 during his campaign against the Kiowas. What is certain is that within a few years of its founding in 1875 as a trading post near what is now downtown Aurora, Castle Rock had become an important stop on stagecoaches traveling between Denver and central Colorado. By 1880, local entrepreneurs had built a gristmill and store on Main Street and begun to sell goods such as flour, oats, bacon and cheese; by 1890 they were also selling books and newspapers. In 1899 Reverend Wm Smeaton erected a Presbyterian church at what is now south end of Main Street; this building still stands today and serves as the community's only resident Anglican congregation (and second oldest building). In 1906 Baron von Richthofen decided to open up some land adjacent to his personal ranch for development into Rancho San Miguel de Allende; this led to increased traffic through CastleRock so much so that builders started creating streetscape features such as roundabouts and driveways around both ends of Main Street – something not common even 50 years later! In 1907–1908 a new school block - three stories high - was erected at what is now northwest corner of Main Street/Broadway Avenue; this addition served elementary students until 1957 when the current high school openedcation nearby moved into its current location across Broadway Avenue from old school block! (Both High Schools have since been closed) Today there are several businesses including banks (Isabella National Bank & Trust Company), convenience stores (PepsiCo., JCPenney & Co.), restaurants (Diner'N Donuts), pharmacies (Eli Lilly & Co.), chiropractors (Dracut Chiropractic Associates), beauty supply stores (!!), auto parts dealerships (& more!), an ice cream parlor (!!), professional golfers club ($10 per round for members ONLY!), veterinary clinics (& more!) - all within easy walk or bike ride of downtown Aurora either coming down Main St./Broadway Ave., going northeast on I-25 past Carbondale or southwest on County Road 231 just north of Monarch Lake

The first resident of the town was John Wentworth (1820-1882), an early settler who built a sawmill and gristmill here. He also founded the Masonic Lodge No. 2 here in 1872. At one time Castle Rock had a post office with ZIP code 80122; however, it closed on July 15, 1996 due to heavy mail volume and competition from other towns in Douglas County. Today Castle Rock is known for its Annual Pumpkin Show which takes place on October 10th each year near the high school athletic field; as well as its annual Oktoberfest events which take place during September and December at local breweries including Blue Moon Brewery and Golden Road Brewing Company
Castle Rock was founded in 1876 as a place to store goods for the miners who were working in the area. The first post office was opened in 1877. By 1886, the town had a hotel, school, and several stores. In 1907, Castle Rock became an incorporated town. The first mayor of Castle Rock was J.C. Goode. In 1912, Castle Rock built its own water system and began to sell postage stamps.
