Castle Rock is a small town in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains, about an hour and a half from Denver. The name originated from its position on a high point overlooking the town and surrounding valley. In 1876, Castlegar (an early settler) leased what is now Castle Rock from Fort Lyon for $5 per year. From that day forward, it was one of the most heavily Rifleman's Town in Colorado because of its strategic location at the top of a rise overlooking all around it! The first firearms were primarily shotguns but soon rifles started to be imported into Castle Rock as well. By 1892, there were over 20 rifle clubs in Castle Rock and by 1912 there were over 100 rifle clubs statewide! There are still numerous Riflemans Meetings in and around CastleRock today where members can shoot their favorite firearms! In 1976, the state legislature passed House Bill 5498 which authorized anyone who could own a handgun to carry it openly without having to go through a dealer or get an application from the sheriff. This law allowed people such as police officers, hunters and fishermen to carry handguns openly without fear of getting arrested! It quickly became known as "The Gun Law Amendment" and has been Repealed several times since then but fortunately never really repealed completely!

In 1865, General John Custer and his Seventh Cavalry came through the area looking for gold and discovered an undeveloped site that became known as Castle Rock Gold Rushmining District. The community developed quickly because of its location near gold mines and because of its easy access to railroad tracks. In 1868, Barranca Mining Company bought land at the head of Castle Creek for $5 per acre (the equivalent of $ in ). The company began producing silver ore from this location and soon became one of the largest producers in Gunnison County. By 1870, Barranca had built several mills on the creek and produced more than 400 tons (equivalent to about 1,200 metric tons) of silver each month. The company also constructed several churches and other structures in Castle Rock during this time period. During the late 19th century, many people moved into CastleRock due to growing tensions between China and Japan over control of Korea's Manchuria region. Castle Rock is a town in Moffat County, Colorado, United States. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Castle Rock was John Hanks, who came to the area in 1879. He named it "Hank's Ferry" after his father-in-law, Hank Stephenson. In 1886, James Aiken founded the small town of Green Mountain about 10 miles (16 km) north of Castle Rock on the east side of Pikes Peak and near present-day Greenwood Village. Aiken's store and post office were destroyed by a fire in 1889; he rebuilt them at what is now 1st & Maple Streets. In 1907, Harry Lloyd platted and built what is now 1st Street between Keystone and Fountain streets as an overpass for his railroad company's line south from Denver to Aurorasburg through Castle Rock and then east to Loveland. Lloyd donated land for a schoolhouse on what is now 3rd Street between Keystone and Fountain streets; this building served as both a schoolhouse and courthouse until 1925 when it burned down. Lloyd also donated money for the construction of castle rock Presbyterian Church (now First Baptist Church), which was dedicated on July 14, 1912. In 1916, during World War I, Castle Rock became home to Fort Lyon Army Base; its officers barracks were used by American Expeditionary Forces troops until 1919 when they moved into new barracks at Loveland Army Depot north of town. After World War II ended, Fort Lyon was decommissioned in 1946 and most of its materials were Storage District No.-4 located adjacent to Loveland Municipal Airport until its closure in 1984; all but a few buildings remain there today as part of that district's history museum complex called "Fort Lyon Arsenal." As early as 1915 or 1916 Major General Smedley Butler visited CastleRock with his military attaché Colonel George Custer; Butler had been assigned to investigate possible grounds for annexation by Colorado into Oklahoma Territory under territorial government control following that state’s victory over Mexico at Lincoln County’s battle of Adobe Hills – an event famously known as “The Battle of Glendale Park” In 1917 Captain John W Coldstream organized local militias against pro-Ally forces occupying Boulder Valley northward from Aspen Reservoir while Assistant Ute Chief Quanah Parker led large force across Indian Creek Bridge southeast from Aspen towards Canon City seekingLast Stand against Americans usingchery tactics known as Raiding parties composed primarily agricultural residents living along creek banks engaged alone or in small groups without support numbering no more than 15 men armed with shotguns only
