Castle Rock is a small town located in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,523 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Golden area. Castle Rock is named after the castle built by David Jones in 1864. The first settlers in what would become Castle Rock were Native American traders and hunters who hunted game near the confluence of the Animas and San Juan Rivers. In 1868, David Jones founded a ranch on land that he had purchased from the local Pueblo people. He named his Ranch Castle Rock because of its location on top of a rock outcrop known as "The Cradle." The first post office in Castle Rock was established in 1871, and it continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1975. The first store opened in 1889 and was operated by John Ahern. By 1912, there were five businesses operating within about one mile of where CastleRock now stands: two retail stores, an agricultural store, a bakery/diner, a hotel, and a schoolhouse (grades K-12). In 1911–12, local citizens erected a large stone statue to honor their pioneer forebears—a granite obelisk measuring 21 feet tall with Corinthian columns supporting an entablature surmounted by an elaborately carved capitol dome weighing over 20 tons—on Main Street between Second and Third Streets. The monument featured six tablets each reading "David Jones Born Februar y 13th1824 Died Dec 17th1885" During World War I (1914-1918), CastleRock served as headquarters for Douglas County's Military Intelligence Service; during World War II (1939-1945), it was Headquarters for Air Forces Pacific Command Base Camp Hale; since 1978 it has been home to Douglas County Heritage Museum which features artifacts related to its history including early settler culture

Castle Rock is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. It is located on the south side of the Animas River. The first permanent settler in Castle Rock was David Harger in 1867. He built a cabin on the east bank of the river and named it Harger's Ferry. In 1868, John Wesley Powell passed through Castle Rock on his way to Fort Washakie and called it "the most perfect place for a fort". By 1873, however, there were only six people living in Castle Rock and no businesses had been started. In 1875, George Sipple bought land east of town from David Harger and began to build what became Sipple's Store. By 1880, there were over 100 people living in Castle Rock and more than 40 businesses had been opened. In 1886, Jeptha Haskell bought all of eastern Weld County from Samuel Teller for $2 million dollars. Haskell immediately began to develop the area into an agricultural center with large plantations that would provide food for much of Colorado Springs and Denver. In 1895, Wm Fenton opened The Box Shop which became one of the first stores open by mail order outside of England or America. The store continued operations until 1978 when it closed due to financial problems caused by inflation throughout Europe during the early 1980s that affected U-S Postal Service rates as well as other retailers across America including Barnes & Noble who also offered same-day shipping then known as "next day" service). The post office operated out of Pikes Peak Brewery until 1992 when it moved into its present building at 4th Street North near Park Avenue South (which currently houses Lululemon Athletica) after Pikes Peak Brewing vacated their building on South Park Boulevard west of 15th Ave SW (now part of Ruby Tuesday). In 2007–2008 completed renovations added a hotel suite overlooking downtown which now functions as bedroom and breakfast/dinner options for residents while also hosting events such as baseball games/festivals outdoors while still having access to public restrooms indoors should weather dictate otherwise; this addition has generated some controversy among some community members who feel that commercial development would have obstructed views from residential areas without proper notification or consent being obtained from those directly impacted thereby impacting their quality-of-life enjoyment factor
