Canon City, Colorado is a city in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,146 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pueblo County and home to Canon City University. The population was estimated to be 10,812 in 2016. The first post office in Canon City was established on July 15, 1875. The name for the town was derived from a creek that flowed through it and its surrounding area. Canon City began as a company town and became an incorporated municipality on January 1, 1907. On November 2, 1914,[2] Canon City voters passed a proposition to merge with Fort Collins.[3] However this merger never came to fruition because of political opposition by Fort Collins Mayor John Sharp. On October 25, 1938,[4] canoncity incorporation becoming effective when all other towns within Pueblo County had become such since October 22nd[5]. As per the Tax Assessment Act of 1935,[6] each incorporated municipality must file an assessment report with the county within 7 days of its establishment date no later than 4 pms after publication of the taxlist by the assessor's office - which would have been October 25th for Canon City annexation into Pueblo County proper! No such filing had been done as required by law! So much for our "merger" resolution from last year... In fact only two other towns (Aurora and Thornton) have EVER filed their reports since then! Almost immediately following incorporation into Pueblo County there were some big changes taking place here including: construction of both the Denver-Aurora Expressway and Cannonball Pass Road; numerous businesses opening up throughout downtown Canon City; rapid growth in housing prices across most urban areas during World War II; large influxes of Mexican immigrants during those years leading to increased crime rates etc., etc., etc… But despite all these good things happening downtown – business continued slowly declining until well into the 1990s when things started picking up again thanks largely to new residents who were drawn thereto by opportunity rather than politics or fear ( curiously enough none of these newcomers ever set foot in downtown Canon City again once they moved here!) I think it’s fair to say that most people living here today can trace their roots back at least one generation or more – if not more! And I believe that has much to do with our deep-rooted sense of community values enshrined within our local government system dating back even further than that! In short: we are tech-savvy professionals who take pride in our technology companies and how they help support our economy but also appreciate everything around us – whether it’s family gatherings at Thanksgiving dinner or just spending time outdoors getting away from it all…
