Gun magazines have been around for over a hundred years, and in Canon City, Colorado they are still an important part of the community. The first gun magazine in Canon City was established in 1881 as The Rocky Mountain News. It was started by John A. McKenzie and his brother-in-law, John Ladd. From that time until 1907, The Rocky Mountain News had a monthly circulation of 100 copies. In 1907, The Rocky Mountain News changed its name to the Colorado Pioneer and began publishing weekly issues. At that point there were only 10 issues published per month. However, because of the high circulation rate it continued to be one of the most popular publications in town for many years. In 1984, The Colorado Pioneer merged with another publication called the Western Plains Times which also had a high circulation rate at its peak in 1988 issue had a total print run of 653 copies! Today there are still severalgunmagazines operating in Canon City including: El Paso Gunslinger (since 1978), High Country Shooter (from 1984-2001), Rifleman (from 1978-1981), Colorado Arms & Armor (1986-1988), Gun Digest (1985-1990), and finally World Shooting Magazines Inc.(1982-) which is now known as Classic Firearms Magazine

The history of magazines is vast and long. There are many different types and sizes of magazines, some dating back to the 1800s. Magazines have been a vital part of gun culture for centuries and continue to be so today. One of the earliest magazine-based firearms was the musket. A musket consisted of a tube with a charge inside it that could be fired by pulling the trigger. To fire, you had to cock the hammer before firing the shot. The round in your musket would travel down the tube and hit somebody or something on impact. This type of firearm wasn’t as reliable as handguns because when you were reloading, you had to take all 5 shots off your weapon in order to reload again—a really time-consuming process! However, muskets were used widely in soldiers throughout history, even during times where handguns were more common. Eventually, pistols became more popular and people began using them instead of rifles for hunting large animals like deer or boars (which was still done with bows). However, rifles continued to be used for larger game like elephants or lions because they were easier and faster to shoot than pistols. As handguns became more popular in America, someone had to come up with a way for people to easily reload their weapons without having TOO much trouble—so it was invented! That person was John Moses Brownson! Brownson came up with what we now call an “auto loader” which allowed people justto pull out 4 rounds from their rifle without having any trouble at all! This change not only made reloading much easier but also gave us one of our most iconic firearms: the assault rifle!
