Broomfield, Colorado is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 3,865 at the 2000 census. It has a rich history that can be found in its buildings and people. Broomfield was founded in 1884 by Joshua Ladd and his wife Anna Brooke. They named it afterBroome County, England. The Ladds were pioneers who helped start the Gold Rush in 1849. They moved to Broomfield from Greeley in 1881 and started a flour mill which became one of the largest mills in Weld County. In 1893, they built a house on what is now Park Avenue and changed their name to Broomfield Publishing Company until 1955 when they sold their company to Hearst Corporation. In 1954, the Ladds donated land for the first high school in Weld County which was later renamed Broomfield High School. The first graduating class of Broomfield High School had 10 students in 1984: 7 girls and 3 boys. In 1992, Broomfield High School built its first building which houses the administration offices as well as classrooms and gymnasiums. In 2006,broomeview Middle School opened along with new facilities for girls which include an all-girls locker room and shower area as well as a mediacenter/auditorium/. In 2010,the old high school site was torn down and replaced by a new stadium complex that includes bleachers for 2,500 spectators as well as locker rooms for 1,500 athletes from local schools as well as state championships competition
