Broomfield is a small town in southeastern Colorado, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Boulder metropolitan area. Broomfield is located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and has a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters. The first settlers in what is now Broomfield were prospectors looking for new sites to explore for gold and silver. The town was founded in 1876 by John A. Frantz and Wm. Hamer, two men from Illinois who had come to assay land near where Broomfield now stands. At first, Broomfield was only a cattle camp; later it became an agricultural center with several thousand acres of farmland comprising most of present day Broomfield Township. In 1915, when Boulder County was organized, Broomfield became one of its six townships, along with Aspen (now Arvada), Brighton (now Centennial), Canon City, Golden (now Greenwood Village), and Longmont (now Loveland). In 1967, after years of planning by then-Mayor Bob Lovell and others in town government, the first municipal building – which still stands today – was built on town square complete with a library/theatre/council chambers combo that served as both Main Street's commercial district until 1978 and also housed various departments including streets department until 1984 when it moved into its current structure on Sixth Avenue NE across from First Congregational Church

What is Broomfield, Colorado? Broomfield is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado. The population was 57,309 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Douglas County. It lies on the San Juan River in western Weld County and is surrounded by Mesa County to the east, Arapaho County to the north, and Parker County to the west. The first European settler in Broomfield was David Gunnison in 1868, although evidence suggests that settlers from as early as 1776 were living here. The name "Broomfield" originated with a large brush fire that burned near present-day downtown Broomfield on December 12, 1872. The blaze destroyed over $3,000 worth of crops and nearly 6 miles (10 km) of fencing before being put out by firefighters using brooms filled with water. A post office called Broomfield was established in 1875; it changed its name to Douglasville in 1903 after General John J. Pershing became military governor of Colorado during World War I. The city grew rapidly during prohibition years due to its location at the head of navigation on the San Juan River between Denver and Fort Collins – an ideal spot for smuggling operations while still allowing residents access to local goods without having their items seized by law enforcement officials. During World War II Broomfield became an important center for aircraft production because it had several factories producing fighter planes for America's allies such as Japan and China; also located here were two plants making tanks and artillery projectiles destined for China's People's Republic Army (PLA). In 1951 Broomfeld acquired international fame when astronaut Neil Armstrong became one of only two humans ever authenticated through direct physical examination alone aboard an American spacecraft – Armstrong would later become mayor of Boulder before dying there aged 73 in 2018
