This was part of an effort to promote type education across America and help build literacy skills across generations. 4) 1990- On July 1, 1990,Broomfield celebrated its centennial with a celebration supervised by President George H W Bush.During this event, many local dignitaries attended including Mayor Donny Moffatt and members of Congress Ron Kline and Vern Buchanan Jr.. 5) 2002- On September 12th,2002, Broomfeld hosted their second centennial celebration which saw many changes take place such as renovations to city hall along with a newly created library system that provides access to over 350 books
Broomfield was founded in 1872 by Major George Broomfield, who named it for his broom-making business. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as farmers settled in the area. In 1907, Broomfield became the county seat of Douglas County. The population declined during World War II, but rebounded after the war when new industries were developed in the town. The population peaked at around 60,000 in 1980 and has since been declining slightly.
