Broomfield, Colorado is known for its gun industry and the history of gun security. The city has been a center for firearm production and sales since at least the 1870s, when settlers in Broomfield set up shop to produce guns for their own use. In 1892, Broomfield became the first municipality in Colorado to pass an ordinance regulating handguns. The ordinance was designed to prevent crime by preventing people from carrying weapons into public places. Gun violence in Broomfield began to increase in the early 1990s; however, it wasn’t until 1996 that there was a shooting at a local elementary school that made national headlines. That year, Kenneth Smallwood shot and killed six people at Columbine High School before fatally shooting himself. In response to the Columbine shootings, lawmakers passed two acts that would have larger impact on firearms regulation: the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993. The National Firearms Act repealed all previously existing restrictions on handgun ownership, including bans on certain types of firearms (such as machineguns) and assault rifles. With these new regulations in place, millions of Americans were able to purchase handguns without having any prior background checks or detonating any explosives within three business days of purchase. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act allowed police officers conducting inspections under state law to carry concealed handguns without having to obtain a special permit from either state or federal authorities. This law also created requirements for states with laws restricting access to pistols (such as New York City) so that those laws could be enforced against consumers who obtained unlicensed handguns through mail order or other unauthorized methods. Broomfield has remained one of America’s leading firearms manufacturing cities ever since its inception – thanks in part to its partnership with Rocky Mountain Arsenal Company (RMA). The gun control movement in Broomfield began in the early 1920s. The Colorado State Legislature passed a bill in 1923 that required all handguns to be registered with the state government. This law was repealed in 1934, but not before it had a significant impact on gun safety. In 1938, Colorado passed another gun control law which required all handguns to be sold by licensed dealers. This law also didn’t have a major impact on gun safety and was repealed two years later. In 1949, Colorado passed a bill which made it illegal to possess any handgun without first having a license from the state government. This law remained in effect until 1978. Gun control laws were re-enacted in Broomfield in 1997 and 2001. These laws were designed to improve public safety by adding new regulation of firearms and increasing security measures for retailers and users. The most important changes contained within these laws included increasing the number of background checks for firearm purchases and expanding the number of places where firearms can be stored (including schools).
Broomfield is a town in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Broomfield was founded in 1876 by William Dibble and his wife Nancy as Bluff City. The first post office was established in 1877 and named for Broomfield Road (now called Kipling Street). In 1886, the town was renamed after Major General Samuel Broomfield of the Union army during the American Civil War. The name stuck and today's name is based on Samuel's role as a surveyor for Colorado Territory in 1876-77. In 1946, Douglas Aircraft Corporation built an airplane factory in nearby Thornton with help from local citizens. The company employed thousands of workers until its closure in 1980. Today, the site remains vacant and is used for agricultural purposes; however, it still generates revenue through property taxes levied on residents of neighboring towns who have land within walking distance of Thornton Airport.

The tragedy led to public outcry and calls for tighter gun laws around the world including in America where laws governing handgun ownership have remained unchanged since1975 (National Rifle Association). Since then there have been several large-scale shootings taking place throughout America such as Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting (2012), Dallas Texas sniper attack (2013), Orlando Florida nightclub shooting (2016) and Las Vegas shooter massacre (2017). These incidents have shown that even small events can lead to deadly outcomes and underscore why gun security is so important.

Broomfield (population: 20,000) is located in the Park County seat of Greeley and is part of the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. The town was named for pioneer Major John Broomfield, who platted the area in 1876. The first post office opened in 1879. Broomfield became a city in 1907 and has since grown to be one of the most populous towns in Colorado. Broomfield’s rich history can be found from its earliest days when it was a small frontier settlement established by pioneers known as “The Boys”. In 1876, John Broomfield founded what would become Broomfeldt Township, Aurora County on land that he had acquired from the Pierson family. Prior to becoming an incorporated town, Broomfield consisted of a few scattered homes and businesses situated along First Avenue North between Lamar Boulevard and I-25W. The growth of Broomeville began with construction of the Erie Canal which connected Denver to Buffalo, New York via this route in 1881. This helped spur heavy industry throughout southern Park County including mining, ranching and logging endeavors that were later led by such major players as Crippen & Westman Mining Company and Waddell CoalCompany during the late 19th century. The downtown core of today’sBroomefield sprang up around this time with several small businesses extant near Third Avenue North and Broadway South before large industrial plants arrived during World War II due to military demand for coal resources across Colorado Springs (northwest CO). Today, downtownexpands into several blocks northward along Promenade Parkway from I-25W/Broadway southward towards University Blvd., retail districts exist eastward along 14th Street from Westminster Blvd., westward along Platte River Rd./South Platte Ave., northeast along Union Pacific Hwy./Shawnee Rd., northwest along Cherry Hills Hwy./Horseshoe Dr., southeast along Colfax Ave./Union Pacific Hwy./Shawnee Rd., southwest along Brighton Dr./Mesa St NW
Broomfield was founded in 1872 by John Broomfield and his family. The town is named after John's father, who also established the first sawmill in the area. The Broomfield Dam was built in 1937, and has helped to increase the town's economy.
