Broomfield, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. It is located on the east side of the mountain range, about 25 miles northwest of Denver. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,912. The name "Broomfield" comes from two early residents--Samuel Broom and John Dickinson--who named their farming community after broom (a type of grass) because it usually grew plentifully in their area. The first settlers in what is now Broomfield were families who came overland from Nebraska over frozen spring water trails. They arrived around 1868, when gold was found in nearby Hill County. The boom times for mining and ranching brought new settlers to Broomfield during the 1870s and 1880s. During this time, Broomfeld's economy depended on agriculture and sheep raising; however, by 1900 all these industries had disappeared and Broomfield's only industry was tourism. In 1907 a group of businessmen formed the First National Bank of Broomfeld to provide banking services to local businesses. The bank has been in operation continuously since then. In 1940 an oil well was drilled near present-day Broomfield by Standard Oil Company; as a result, industry began to increase again inBroOMFIELD throughout World War II until production ceased due to wartime rationing. The post-war years saw a resurgence in industry with construction jobs coming back into town but also increased traffic on state highways which led to problems such as limited parking space and streetlights being turned off at night due to budget constraints within city limits! Today there are many small business owners that have kept BroOMFIELD running despite difficult times like recent drought conditions which have caused restrictions on outdoor activities including playing football etc., while large businesses have left for other areas because they can no longer compete with lower costs associated with global recession
Broomfield was founded in 1876 by pioneer farmers James and Mary Broomfield. The town gradually grew as a prosperous agricultural center, with a population of over 100 people in the early 1900s. In 1916, the Broomfields erected the first bank building in Colorado. In 1942, they donated land to the city of Broomfeld for its first physical square. In 1963, they donated additional land to the city for its present-day boundaries. The Broomfields are buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Broomfeld.
