The name "Broomfield" first appeared on a map in 1864 and is derived from an early settler's recollection that he used to sweep up leaves in the community square when he was a boy. Broomfield has been incorporated as a municipality since 1912 and has had two mayors: Clifford Wadhwa (1912-13) and Leroy Stroud (1915-17). The original town site included only three buildings: the current post office, schoolhouse, and church. Over time, other settlements were founded in what is now Broomfield – such as Garden City (1892), Telluride (1899), and Parkrose (1905). In 1912, Broomfield incorporated as a municipality and elected its first mayor, Clifford Wadhwa. At that time it had a population of just over 1 hundred people. Since incorporation into municipality status, Broomfield has seen several growth opportunities including annexation by nearby Telluride in 1978; development of new housing along Interstate 25 between Broomfield and Telluride; and promotion of its downtown area as an attractive tourist destination featuring art galleries, restaurants, bars/lounges, and small businesses. Today Broomfeld boasts an estimated 14% population growth rate annually compared to its 2% statewide average - making it one of the fastest growing municipalities in Colorado!

Broomfield is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Broomfield were the Spanish in 1811 and 1812. The area now known as Broomfield was part of the Mexican Land Grant Rancho San Miguel de Allende which was granted to Spain by Mexico in 1848. In 1860, John D. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil Company in nearby Unalaska and began developing oil leases in what is now Weld County. By 1870, Standard had built a refinery on the east side of the then-small town and production continued until 1903 when it was closed due to lack of capacity. In 1902, John Denny organized a local farmers' market in downtown Broomfield which grew into an important commercial center for the region. The area's abundant natural resources led to its nickname "TheOilLake". In 1916, Denver Post editor William Randolph Hearst bought 8 acres (3 ha) of undeveloped land northeast of downtown Broomfield for $1 million and developed it into one of America's largest paper mills; Hearst named his mill Hearst Paper Company after himself. During World War II, much of Broomfield was used as housing for soldiers and their families who had been forced from their homes during fighting in Europe or Japan; many broomsfields remain intact today as military housing developments. After the war ended, many businesses failed and consolidation took place throughout the county; by 1970 only 7% of businesses remained private sector operations out of a total population over 1 million people living within radius of major metropolitan areas such as Denver-Aurora-Broomfield). Today there are several restaurants located near downtown Broomfield as well as numerous smaller stores that line Main Street between Interstate 25/State Highway 119 on one end and Pikes Peak Avenue on the other end giving residents plentyof options for shopping while still being close to all aspects that make up life here - including art galleries, music venues etcetera
