Broomfield has experienced many changes throughout its history including being part of bothDenver and Aurora counties during different eras before becoming its own municipality in 1978 with a population of just over 2,000 residents in 1998 when it amalgamated with neighboring Thornton Village In recent years there has been much redevelopment taking place with new stores, restaurants and medical facilities opening up around town as well as some housing developments completed or under construction such as Park Meadows which will bring 655 units to the area by 2021 The Broomfield Chamber of Commerce sponsors a variety of events throughout each year that include concerts by local artists at the ConocoPhillips Arena and a farmers market every other Saturday morning Broomfield also hosts several annual festivals such as Oktoberfest and Spring Fest which attract thousands of people each year
Broomfield was founded in 1876 by James Broomfield, the father of modern day Colorado. The town was named after Broomfield County in England, where he had been born. The first post office was established in Broomfield in 1877. In 1905, the county seat of Broomfield was moved to Greeley.
