Brighton, Colorado is a small town located in Pueblo County, Colorado. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Metropolitan Denver Area and is bordered by Westminster to the north and east, Brighton to the south and west, and Lone Tree to the northwest. The town was founded in 1881 when a group of Englishmen named it Brighton after their beach town on England's Isle of Wight. Brighton experienced some hard times during World War II; however, due to its close proximity to Fort Carson Army Base, military personnel made a major impact on life hereabouts. The first people to live in what would become Brighton arrived around 1875 when they moved from Independence, Missouri. By 1896, there were just a few hundred residents living in what is now Brighton. At that time, most of the land was rural and unused because of the railroad tracks running through town. In 1898, when Aurora became an incorporated city, Brighton voted to stay within Aurora limits. In 2000, voters agreed to annex part of Park Valley which had a population of 431 as well as another annexation for $295,000 which included land east of Interstate 25 that had been used for chicken farming since before Denver even appeared on maps! It wasn't until 2002 when a new school was built in downtown by local citizens on money saved from demolition of old buildings that started to trickle back into town coffers again after years stopped bringing tax dollars into town coffers due to growth outside its boundaries (and also because Aurora annexed so much more!). It wasn't until after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 that things changed dramatically - but not quickly enough for many residents who found themselves outmaneuvered by developers eager to capitalize on natural disasters! As it turns out though, while some may have seen redevelopment as good news - others simply didn't want their taxes flowing into an institution where they felt no allegiance or connection whatsoever! So with development happening slowly at best and businesses struggling mightily against competition from shopping malls popping up along I-25 - why did it take so long for things really bubbling over?
