When people think of Brighton, Colorado they typically think of the population of around 25,000 that live in the city. However, since the late 1800s Brighton has been home to a number of optical manufacturers and distributors who have helped shape the industry today. The first product from these companies was spectacles. In 1892 Amos Fenton made some Spectacle Glasses which he advertised as being "the best and most perfect pair of spectacles you can buy." The glasses were eventually replaced by contact lenses in 1906. In 1928 Harry Atherton began selling a line of sunglasses called "Athertons". These sunglasses were designed to protect users' eyes against bright sunlight and other harmful UV light rays. The sunglasses became so popular that they were eventually discontinued in 1951. However, throughout all these years there have been many other products and entrepreneurs who have helped shaped the modern optical industry. Some examples include: Willis Jaycox who started producing eyeglasses in 1921; Harry Baughman who founded American Optical in 1930; Julius Weisbart who co-founded Saks Fifth Avenue with his brother Solomon Weisbart in 1942; and Barney Ross who founded Ross & Ross Sporting Goods Ltd., one of the largest sporting goods stores ever created, in 1964. One of these businesses was The Optical Shop on West Broadway which operated for many years until it closed in the 1960s.
Brighton, Colorado is a small town located in the San Miguel County seat of Pueblo. The population was 753 at the 2010 census and grew to 1,827 in 2016. Brighton is known for its wineries, which are located on the west side of town. The first settlement in what is now Brighton was made by Father Francisco de Asís and his family in 1847. In 1864, Captain George Stephenson established a trading post here with a store and house. He built a stone fortification called Fort Stephenson to protect his trade interests. The fort was abandoned around 1870, but it has been used as an agricultural fairgrounds ever since. In 1876, two brothers named Tomás and Héctor Chávez founded the tomato cannery Chávez & Tomás Canning Company on Richards Road east of town. It became one of the largest canned food businesses in America and remains operational today. In 1907, Emma Jepson married Harry Sargent who started a grocery store next door to their home on Richards Road. The couple's son HarrySargent opened his own grocery store in 1951 called Sargent's Market Place (now part of Walmart). In 1916, Mrs.[Nancy] Ladd founded her own school that still operates today - Ladd Elementary School - which helped popularize early childhood education in Brighton beginning in 1927!

Brighton, Colorado was founded in 1875 by John T. and Emma H. Potter. The town became a post office in 1902 and was named for Brighton, England. The population of Brighton reached 2,000 in 1907 and the first school was built that year. In 1912, the first electric streetlights were installed in Brighton. The population increased to 4,000 by 1920 and the first store opened that year. By 1930, the town had a library and a water system. In 1933, the Ute Pass Bridge was completed providing transportation between Brighton and Park City. The population of Brighton decreased to 1,500 by 1945 but it grew again to 3,500 by 1951 when it joined the United States Postal Service as a Seaport Village. In 1957, part of Brighton merged with Park City to form an all-new town called Park City-Brighton. The growth of Park City-Brighton led to development of several businesses such as restaurants, hotels, stores and schools within the town limits which continue to exist today as well as new housing developments nearby including OnePark Place and Renaissance Center which are both currently under construction or have been started recently
Brighton was founded in 1871 as a small town in the eastern Colorado Rockies. The town quickly grew and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1923, the city of Brighton approved an amendment to its charter that allowed for the establishment of a waterworks company. The company built a dam and began providing water service to the town. In 1928, the company merged with another waterworks company and Brighton became one of its components. The city continued to provide services until 1973, when it merged into Colorado Springs.
