Brighton, Colorado is a small town in the western part of Colorado. It was founded in 1907 by three brothers who were looking for a place to homestead. The first settlers were farmers, but soon enough they started getting into the knife business. By 1922, there were five knife manufacturers in Brighton. The businesses produced everything from knives to hatchets to axes. But it wasn't all fun and games; the manufacturers also made their own blades and tools, which can still be found today at local hardware stores or online. In 1951, the first grocery store opened up in Brighton and quickly became one of the town's mainstay amenities. From here on out, Knife Manufacturing would continue to be an important aspect of life in this small community until it closed its doors in 1984.

The first school in Brighton opened in 1907. The current high school, Brighton High School, opened in 1954. In 1964, the town established its own fire department and ambulance service with three pickups per hour from neighboring towns and villages to operate out of a single station on Main Street. In 1978, the town erected a Memorial Park honoring local military veterans with access to public education and recreational opportunities as well as commemorative plaques recognizing distinguished citizens who had made a significant contribution to the community or its culture. The current mayor is Don Hiltzik and he has been elected since November 4th, 2013
