Some of these individuals include J.B Holmes, who created one of the first handguns inColorado; John Hofer, who founded Colorado’s first Repeating Arms Company; and George Aiken, who established Aiken Guns & Ammunition Manufacturing Company in 1907. Brighton, Colorado is a small town in the counties of Douglas and Mesa. The population was 1,591 at the 2010 census. Brighton is located in Southern Colorado about 30 miles south of Pueblo and 40 miles northwest of Denver. It lies on a bend in the Arkansas River and has an eastern border with Brighton Village on the east side of that river. Brighton was postulated in 1884 by A. H. Caldwell as part of what would become Douglas County. The name means "bright star" or "gleaming star." The first settler was John Dickey, who arrived in 1885 from Illinois with his family and homesteaded near present day Brighton Mallard Drive on the west bank of the Arkansas River. In 1886, Elisha Hawkins moved to Brighton from Trinidad and started up Hawkins Nursery which produced wheat and other vegetables until it closed in 1912 due to Prohibitionism; however, Hawkins' descendants still live in Brighton today. The first school opened for students in 1888 when a schoolhouse built by local resident Eliza Beattie became inadequate for continued use after years of weathering by floods (the current building was completed in 1910). In 1895, Mrs Hargrave donated land just north of present day Brighton Boulevard for a new school that would serve all residents as well as provide instruction for children living beyond reach of public schools due to lack thereof at that time or high cost reasons (the first building served students from 1898-1910). The original brick elementary school building still stands today within walking distance of most homes within Brighton village boundaries; however, since annexation by Pueblo following Pueblo's incorporation into Douglas County in 1907, all but one classroom has been replaced with a new annexe housed insideDouglas High School since its completion during Expo '92 - making it one of only two high schools operated by both entities withinDouglas County! In 1924 construction began on what would become known as the Hastings Elementary School campus; this $1300 project included erection Of two three story redwood buildings (the current Administration Building now stands) surrounding an asphalt parking lot facing South Grand Avenue - providing classrooms, offices andenabling classes to be held simultaneously outdoors during blizzards! Following graduation from Hastings Elementary School District #2 on May 15th 1954 Grades PreK through 8 were offered at Red Cliff Evangelical Lutheran Church across South Grand Avenue from Hastings Campus; Grades 9-12 were offered at Gold Canyon Baptist Church across North Grand Avenue from Hastings Campus! For many years both campuses served concurrentlyGrade preK through 8 students attended Red Cliff while grades 9-12 students attended Gold Canyon! As enrollment increased at either campus options expanded including multi-purpose room addition(s) & additional classrooms which are no longer used currently include: 12th floor West Hall Science Annex/ gymnasium & 11th floor East Hall Business Annex/ recreation area - resulting total enrollment over 50 years now exceeds 200 individuals enrolled aboard eachcampus!! “Welcome to your new home – where learning begins!”

Brighton, Colorado was founded in 1900 by John D. Rockefeller and his friend General James Anson. The town became a thriving community thanks to its location on the banks of the Animas River. The river helped provide natural resources for Brighton, such as coal and lumber, which made it an important center in the area. In 1916, the town adopted a new city charter that allowed for more than one hundred businesses to operate in the city. The city also built a library, waterworks, and other infrastructure to support its growing population. Despite these successes, Brighton experienced economic decline during the 1920s and 1930s. However, during World War II, Brighton became an important source of military supply due to its proximity to San Francisco Bay. Additionally, during the war period, Brighton hosted large-scale military exercises that drew attention from across America. After the war ended, Brighton experienced increased development thanks to federal funds and Laser technology brought over from California. Today, Brighton is a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to both Colorado Springs and Denver

The first post office was established in 1888 and the first school was built in 1889.
