Boulder, Colorado is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado and the county seat of Boulder County. The population was 745,829 as of 2019. It is located on the southern edge of the Rocky Mountains, about 25 miles (40 km) west-northwest of Denver and 41 miles (66 km) east-southeast of Fort Collins. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Boulder were mountain men led by George Washington during his 1792 military campaign against Mexico City. The town began as a small trading post called "Fort Larimer" on the south side of Bridgwater Creek, about one mile (1.6 km) east of present-day downtown Boulder. In 1801, Sir James Kapp erected a ford across Bridgwater Creek near what is now known as Fourth Street and Broadway Avenue to create another crossing point for wagon traffic between the eastern counties andATTLE Mountain Reservation in San Miguel County. From this location, traders could access new marketplaces such as Trinidad in New Mexico and Santa Fe in New Mexico without having to go throughDenver or Fort Collins. In 1802, Boulder became an incorporated village when it joined Auraria Township from Unincorporated Parkland north of Aspen Lake on Auraria Ridge above Aspen Park Reservoir; this area had been part of Pikes Peak Ranch since 1796.[2] On July 1, 1805,[3] Auraria Township merged with Boulder Township to form Boulder County after voters passed an act incorporating the townships at a meeting held at State Capitol Building on July 5th following a petition drive by citizens.[4][5] The first sheriff was Josiah Van Cleave[6] who served from November 8th, 1805 until May 11th 1830 when he was succeeded by Elijah Greenwood[7]. During Van Cleave's term there were two major firefights with Apache raiders which resulted in five deaths: June 3rd fight at Englewood; October 12th fight at Washburn; December 15th fight near Longmont; January 25th fight at Golden Hill.[8][9][10] With growth came political corruption which caused many commissioners to leave office or be replaced with friends or family members within months or weeks after taking office thereby violating election laws that required every commissioner to serve out his/her full four-year term unless impeached by resolution from both Houses Of Congress before leaving office for lack thereof. This corrupt behavior also led some businessmen including John Davenport[11], Nathan Cummings[12], Horace Greeley[13], Arapahoe Basin Railway Company president David Robertson[14],[15],[16],[17]), Samuel Morse [18], Ezra Stiles [19],[20] among others to move their businesses outside Colorado Springs due to poor conditions inside Colorado’s capital city while simultaneously enjoying excessive privilege tax breaks given by then-Governor John Hickenlooper – all while failing ever once To File A Complaint Or Speak Out Against These Conditions! This situation quickly changed under Governor John Hickenlooper who announced plans back in 2014 “to clean up government” including increasing transparency within government operations,[21][22]:– one year after becoming governor – calling it “the biggest reform I have ever planned” He also ordered then Mayor Michael Hancock(D)[23]:–his predecessor–to take steps toward reducing graft throughout municipal government within six months time period starting February 1st 2015 . However even with these plans several former mayors still remain unaccounted for over $100 million dollarsmissing from city coffers since 2007

Boulder, Colorado is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado and the county seat of Boulder County. The population was 827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first inhabitants of what is now Boulder were Native Americans who lived around the present-day downtown area until Comanche Chief Little Big Horn's party arrived in 1805 to trade furs with traders from Great Britain and France. The first European to visit what is now Boulder was Francisco Vásquez de Coronado in 1540 on his way from Mexico City to La Junta, New Mexico. Heading upparties of his army explored what are now aspects of today's Boulder and De Anza Mountains before finally reaching Aspen on July 10, 1541 after returning across South Pass over which he had ridden four days earlier. In 1701, Captain John Atkin founded Atkin’s Fort at current day University Hill on land that would become part of Boulder Township later that year. In 1722, George Washington passed through this region while leading an expedition against the French at LittleBig Horn and recommended that Rocky Mountain fur trader Pierre Dorion establish a trading post in this area as early as 1724 because it offered good hunting grounds for white settlers seeking supplies for their war efforts against British forces nearby at Quebec City and Montreal. Dorion erected his home near where Columbia Street intersects Broadway (now called 25th Street) in 1728; it served as his headquarters until May 7, 1770 when he relocated northward along east Colfax Avenue to Fort Lewis where he continued operations until January 12, 1778 when hostilities ended with Canada’s victory over France during its War for Independence under General George Washington at Saratoga Springs). Boulder became chartered by Congress on November 13, 1802 as the Townsite of Boulder Creekitaire –later renamed Downtown – located immediately west (northwest corner) of what is today Main Street between 20th and 22nd Streets within easy walking distance both east/west from then existing business districts centered around Columbine Peak (then known locally as Butte Hill), Lafayette Square & Market Square (& related modern neighborhoods including Evergreen Park), Riordan Park & Templeton Cemetery etc., thus becoming one of several towns platted adjacent to or contiguous with federal military installations during late 19th century USAwestward expansionphase following Mexican War era throughout Southwest Territory following successful US invasion led by General James Kippenberger circa 1846 culminating in Overland Mail Route Old Kit Carson Trail route arriving here via Oregon Valley about 1849 Kabul Boundary changes resulting in Treaty Of Gadsden ending Indian Wars southwest portion comprising adjoining Utah Territory south side effecting easternmost portions Dakota Territory prior to creationof WestVermont territory April 24 1860
