The first optical accessory store in Aurora, Colorado was opened by Dr. Charles A. Fenton in 1912. He started selling eyeglasses and other optical equipment to friends and family. The business grew rapidly and by 1918 it had become a full-fledged optical store with its own building on Welton Street. In 1921, Fenton passed away and his son, Harry, took over the business. Harry ran the store until his death in 1981. During Harry's time, Aurora began to develop into an industrial town with many factories and businesses located near the small shopping district known as "The Loop." In 1984, Harry's grandson, Dan Fenton, purchased the business from his father and continued to run it as an independent store until 2001 when he sold it to George Kulas of Denver. In 2002, Aurora Voters passed Amendment 1 which repealed City ordinance forbidding retail sales of optical products outside of established optometry stores within city limits. This change allowed GK Surgical Optical Store Inc., a company incorporated in Colorado Springs under the name "Aurora Opticals", to open up a new location at 801 Grant Street inside the confines of the city limits within one year of being registered with the state government! This was followed by another retailer opening their doors - Crossroads Optics - on October 15th 2006 just two weeks after Amendment 1 went into effect! These two retailers were quickly followed by three more - B&H Photo & Video (2007), JDS Optical (2008) and COBRA Optical (2009). Since Aurorans have access now not only to high quality optometric products but also a wide variety of accessories for their devices including sunglasses/sunglasses cases/accessories etc., there is no doubt that this has been one of Aurora's most successful retail districts during recent years!
Aurora, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of Western Colorado. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. Aurora is part of the Fort Collins-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is the most populous municipality in that area. The city was founded on April 12, 1892 by Horace Greeley and his wife, Anna Maria Greeley. It became an incorporated municipality on January 1, 2009. The first settlers in Aurora were farmers who arrived from Kansas in 1881. They began to sell produce from their farms to local residents and businesses. By 1890, Aurora had a post office and two churches: one Methodist and one Presbyterian. In 1893, two brothers started a mercantile business which became known as The Grapes store. In 1896, they built a large frame house which served as both their home and store until it burned down in 1934. In 1898, John Wesley Powell visited Keystone Lake while on his way to Mount Rushmore National Monument and decided to settle there for water supplies for his mining operations near Aspen Creek Reservoir. He named the stream he crossed "Powell's creek" after him because he thought it would be difficult for Indian raiders to cross without being detected by him or his men due to its narrowness between banks On July 24th of that year, AECO (the American Electric Company) opened its power plant at what is now downtown Aurora with some 830 horsepoweratts of electricity making Aurora one of the first communities in America to have electric lighting! On November 6th 1905 when mail service between Denver and Boulder passed through town on Routt County Road #1 (now Interstate 25), people gathered around Main Street corner Post Office buildings awaiting delivery of letters - anticipation building into something like a mini-festspiel as package cars pulled up outside! This event also marks the original incorporation date of this municipality! For many years thereafter all communication within our community came through these wonderful letter carriers! One can only imagine how amazing it must have been for those early generations just tryingto get by!!Today nearly every aspect of our daily lives comes via email or other electronic means...a true “plugged-in” society today!
