Aurora, Colorado is home to the Rocky Mountains and is known for its manufacturing of ammunition. The city was founded in 1892 by Jesse James Callender, a gunsmith and entrepreneur. Ammunition production began in 1907 and continued until 1967 when it was consolidated with other ammo companies into the current company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The first shot heard in Aurora came from a shotgun blast that killed John Haggerty on November 7, 1868. The town was named after Haggerty's father, who had died earlier that year while serving as captain of company C of the 14th Colorado Infantry Regiment during the Mexican-American War. In 1898, rifle manufacturer Remington started production within the city limits of Aurora. This led to increased demand for ammunition and Remington became one of the largest producers of ammunition in North America at that time. In 1927, Winchester Repeating Arms Company merged with rival Browning Manufacturing Company to form what would be called “the biggest American arms corporation in history” (Flamm). At this point, Winchester Repeating Arms Company controlled more than two-thirds of all American firearms sales (Rutherford). Winchester Repeating Arms COMPANY History Beginnings: July 1st 1907 Winchester Firearms Corporation became operational on July 1st 1907 under new ownership by Jesse James Callender with their efforts focused on expanding their product line beyond shotguns to include rifles as well; however pistols were not part of their original vision! The company initially manufactured shotguns only but over time they expanded into rifle production becoming one of the most dominant players in American gunnery throughout much of World War I both materially AND ideologically! They transitioned back into pistols after WWI ended but continue to produce rifles through WWII!!! After WWII they went back into shotguns again! However now products are headed towards center stage once again with major investment planned for 2020/21 which will see them become even more dominant!! GO WILSON!!!!

Aurora (/aəˈruːnə/; Conexión hídı'kuh-ruh-nuh / ˈaʊrᵻrᵻt/, IPA (key) : ˈaɪrdᵻt ), named after the Greek goddess of the dawn and day, is part of the Denver–Aurora metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Aurora were Spanish explorers from Mexico City in 1524 who named it San José de Arandía after Saint John's Chapel on the edge of town. The name may have been derived from an early Indian word meaning "place where deer live." By 1818, when Kansas Territory was organized, Aurora had become part of that territory and was appended to Topeka. In 1861, as Topeka grew rapidly and AurorasSleepy Hills neighborhood became too populous for its single growth spurt under new zoning limitationsimposed by Topeka authorities on growing towns outside the city limits,[2] Aurora petitioned for incorporation as a city.[3]On November 2nd 1870 voters approved incorporation with a population of 562 people[4][5] surpassing Topeka's quota for residents by 54 votes to 42%. On November 3rd 1870 Mayor George Pappagee signed incorporation papers into law and called Aurora "the most important community in our region".[6] A year later on February 17th 1871 City Council resolved to award $1 per capita tax increment to help finance building projects needed for annexation into the larger municipality. The first annexation election held under this system resulted in the election of five members to City Council including two Armenians who had moved there from Telluride Springs and one African American man who had immigrated from Delaware County NY.[7][8][9][10][11] In 1916 Aurora founded its own press company - The Daily Avalanche - which has continued publishing today as The Daily Camera

The mill closed in 1926 but reopened as a bank in 1932 before closing again in 1978. In 1984, it reopened as an jewelry store called Park Jewelry until it shut down due to economic conditions in 2001. In 1903, Jens Jensen built a home on his farm south of town that he called "The Ranch". He served as mayor from 1923 to 1925 and 1929 to 1933; he is also credited with creating Aurora's first civic organization—the Civic League—and for helping to create its first park—Stadium Park—in 1922. After Jensen's death, his wife took over management of his ranch until her death in 1948; thereafter it was managed by their four children who continued to operate it until 1973 when it was sold to Trigger Properties Incorporated for $1 million (). In 1943, during World War II, most of downtown Aurora was destroyed by fire because Denver Portable Gasification Plants used products contaminated with radioactive materials while they were being set up across Weld County; however most people did not experience any health effects because they lived close by and public transportation brought them back into town within two hours (). When Interstate 25 was constructed through central Jefferson County in the early 1970s planners decided that all future growth would occur outside Of Town boundaries so they designated much of northside Jefferson County as Auroras Industrial Zone (AIZ) which included many small towns such as Deer Valley and Golden Hill along with large factories like Hunt Graphics Company and Alcoa Aluminum Corporation (). However since Auroras incorporation date there have been only 1 or 2 businesses opened up within town limits
