The first European to visit what is now Arvada was Captain James Fife in 1814 when he and his party of soldiers were on their way to help Santa Fe settlers fight the Mexican War. He named one of his hills "Fife's Peak" in honor of him. The town started as a small farming community near present-day Arvada Springs and grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its proximity to Denver, Colorado's booming mining industry. In 1912, the city council decided that Arvada should become its own municipality and began planning for an upcoming centennial celebration which would include a parade through downtown followed by a picnic at Pioneer Park. On July 4, 1913, Arvada became an incorporated municipality with a population of 3200 people During World War II, much of the munitions production in Douglas County took place at Rocky Mountain Arsenal east ofDenver. This led to development around the Arsenal area such as North Park and Arlington Heights which are still recognizable today from wartime patterns of housing development. The post office moved from its original location near present day I-25 and 12th Street south into new facilities north of 10th Avenue in 1945 just beforeDouglas County merged with El Paso County effective January 1st 1946 In 1951, construction began on Interstate 25 which crossed through downtown Arvida creating what is now known as South Boulevard/I-25 (or “Boulevard”). As I-25rewas expanded northward over time it came downslope towards downtowns along South Boulevard/I-25 until it reached Market Street where it turned east (towards Denver) under I-70W; this created what is now known as Broadway/I-70W (or “Broadway”). Prior to this section becoming part of I-70W there had been two main streets running concurrently: East Blvd./Ute Rd., also called Railroad Ave., ran parallel toMain St./Ute Rd., while Northwest Blvd./South Platte Ave.(now North Capitol Mall) ran perpendicular from Main St./Ute Rd.– both streets intersected US 26 about 1 mile northeast ofArlington Heights/northwest cornerof Utes Ridge Road As mentioned earlier many remnants from World War II can still be found throughout Downtown Arvida - most notably remnants from Rocky Mountain Arsenal including buildings located along SOUTH BOULEVARD/I‑25 between Broadway & Market Streets as well as NW BROADWAY /US 26 between Eighth & Ninth Avenues just past NAPLES ROAD . Even though Downtown Aircrva has experienced various incarnations over time some key landmark buildings have remained largely unchanged including ARLINGTON HILLS - originally called NORTH CAPITOL MALL but renamed after General Curtis LeMay because he played a major role in developing Rapid City after WWII - PRESENT DAY ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - original name for EL PASO COUNTY Fairgrounds but renamed after Presiding Judge George Prentice Holmes after he served on District Court staff during WW II It should be noted that many aspects specific to each incarnation might not have survived including public services like water or sewer service being switched off entirely during different years or even discontinued outright like telephone service was back then . However overall these changes likely resulted in less confusion for residents who gradually adapted ..

Arvada is a small town in Colorado, United States. It was founded in 1864 by farmers who moved from the eastern part of the state to this area. The current population is around 9,000 people. Arvada's nickname is "The Green City," and it has been called "the birthplace of American democracy." The town was first settled on an old Rancho San Miguel land grant given to Captain George Armistead by the Mexican government in 1837. Captain Armistead used the ranch for his cattle herds and also built a small cabin here in 1844. Captain Armistead's wife, Mary Elizabeth White (1824-1900), was born here on December 6, 1824. She married Major General James Prentiss of Connecticut and they had six children: Elizabeth (1849-1925), George Washington Prentiss (1851-1926), Adelphia SarahArmistead (1856-1945), Franklin Pierce Armistead (1858-1941) and Martha James Prentiss (1860-1945). After Captain George Armistead died in 1850, his widow sold the ranch to John Halleck for $1,000 cash plus interest. In 1860, Halleck hired Jeptha Flournoy as foreman of his new mine at Cripple Creek when he discovered gold there. In 1861, Halleck also bought 2 square miles of land east of Arvada from Major General Fenton Robinson for $2 per acre ($10 million today). This purchase doubled the size of Arvada by adding 4square miles to its present footprint. In 1865, Colonel Edwin Drake purchased 1/4 mile northeast of town from Mrs. Halleck for $100 (). He named it Drake's Gulch after himself and started developing the property into irrigated agriculture with water deliveries from three wells that he dug nearby. The community gradually grew because it became a stop on stagecoaches heading northward toDenverand southward toLos Angeles., helping support Denver's rapidly growing economy during these years.(Drake would later donate much of these lands back to local farmers.) During this time period there were two hotels in town - one operated by Mr.-Tucker Bros., which burned down in 1888; another managed by Wm.-Frazier & Sons which continued until 1902; and a third established about 1900 by Averill Harriman known as “The Arvada Hotel” which still stands today.(This last establishment served as both a social club and general store until prohibition revoked its liquor license c1990 .) A post office opened at Arvado on October 20th, 1865 under name Ofcordia Springs (). On May 1st 1880 miners killed four men working near their claim when their homemade explosives prematurely went off while they were trying to break up some quartz rocks.(Some historians believe that thisexplosion may have been caused by an error made while measuring detonator cords…) After many attempts at organizing an election contest resulting only in several arrests (), Lt.-Governor David Stanley ordered Colonel Gouverneur Morris ()to open up voting rights so that every Coloradan had an opportunity to vote without fear or favoritism.(Stanley would later become governor twice.) On November 15th 1890 voters approved passage of Colorado Constitution Article XIV Section 5 calling for elections every 3 years insteadof annually like then.(See also History Of Colorado Elections .) In 1904 ownership passed hands between Republican politicians Hiram Johnson Sr./Edmunds Crittenden(who owned most mineral rights)and Democrat Tom Larkin who leased it back from Republicans after winning what became known as The Great Colorado Election . Larkin ran unsuccessfully for re-election against incumbent GOP Rep Don Frazee but did manage to win control over certain aspectsof government such as budgeting.. By 1909 almost all surface mines had closed down due largelyto low pricesfor gold ore.) Although not directly related thereto,.Arvada experienced rapid growth following World War Idue largelyto increased military activity surrounding Denverand Boulder.–TodayArvadahas more than 9K residents living within its city limits – makingit one of fastest growing communitiesinthenation!
