Yucca Valley is a town in Kern County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert and about 120 miles (193 km) northeast of Los Angeles. The name Yucca Valley comes from two early Spanish place names: Siquijorre and Valle de las Vegas. Siquijorre means "Valley of Snakes." They built their villages near springs that provided water for their cattle and horses. After about 1800, other groups arrived including Paiutes and Goshawks which changed hands several times until 1836 when Mexican civil war troops overran US territory east of Yuma River; they burned all the villages except one in present-day Yucca Valley before returning home without taking any treasure or livestock with them. In 1852 Gold was found at Comstock Lode but no attempt was made to exploit it because there was no way to get out as most water available came from snowmelt within 3 miles (5 km) of where mining took place so operations stopped shortly thereafter. It then turns southwestward and enters Kane Creek National Recreation Area just west of Flagstaff Junction before turning northeast again and reaching the Colorado River at La Jolla Village downstream from San Diego Airport
