Eventually, shells became even more effective than bows against distant targets- they would detonate upon impact (henceforth known as “explosive” caliber ammunition), dealing significant damage to whatever they hit. This changeover led to new terms being coined for various types of projectiles- such asmining rounds (for blasting through obstacles), naval gunfire (which can be discharged from ships),and battlefield artillery (which is fired by cannons). etc… It was finally standardized in 1892 after many years of experimentation by various governments around the world! In short, Ammunition history is quite convoluted and full of variety; however it is ultimately an incredibly important part of warfare which has played a pivotal role in shaping our modern world!
