In the early 1800s, Yuba City was a small town in the Sacramento Valley. The town was founded by white men in 1851 and prospered until it was destroyed in a fire in 1876. It was then rebuilt and renamed Yuba City after the nearby Butte River. The city’s first shooting range opened in 1886 and its first rifle club, the American Rifle Association, met in 1889. In 1911, Yuba City became an incorporated city with a population of around 15,000 people. The city improved its shooting ranges and facilities over time and currently has six Shooting Ranges open to the public. The history of target holders is intimately connected to that of Yuba City. Yuba City is a city in Sutter County, California, United States. The population was 33,484 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sutter County. The name "Yuba" comes from an Indian word meaning "the place where the water flows." Yuba City was incorporated on January 15, 1879. The site of present-day Yuba City was first settled in 1849 by Captain John C. Frémont and his party as part of their survey for the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1852, Judge James Mott selected this location as the site for what would become Sacramento County; however, because Yuba Valley was then considered part of Shasta County, none of the town's buildings were erected until after 1861 when it became part of Sutter County. In 1875–1876 Lieut.-Governor George Dixon donated what is now downtown to be the county seat; but due to lack of funds from private donors, only one courthouse and jail were built before statehood caused all county seats in California to be moved to Ukiah (then called North Bend) in 1912 and Sacramento in 1916. A new courthouse and jail were completed in 1924 and 1930 respectively; they remain Yuba City's primary agencies today. In 1914-1915 a new dam was constructed on Clear Creek which created an artificial lake around which much development took place beginning with small villages near the mouth formed by dam construction: Weedonville (now Red Bluff), Crystal Lake Village (later North Crystal Lake), East Crystal Lake Village (later El Sobrante), West Crystal Lake Village (later Walnut Creek), Deer Park (now Crescent City). Many stores and homes were built along both sides of Clear Creek between 1915-1920 especially those along Deer Park Boulevard eastward into town limits which developed into what is now Civic Center Drive including: Deerskin Mills dating back to 1905, Mohawk Millinery Store 1911–13 at 9th Street & Elm Avenue northward from Main Street eastward into town limits then becoming known as Mohawk Mall 1912–present day and also Riggs Hardware 1903–present day across Elm Avenue from Deerskin Mills

Yuba City is located in the Central Valley of California, about 60 miles south of Sacramento. The city was founded on October 15, 1859 by Captain John C. Fremont and his brother-in-law, George H. Carleton. The town was named for Yuba River which led to its original location. In 1863, the U.S. government granted land in the area to the Carleton family in memory of their ancestor General George H. Carleton who had fought at Chihuahua during the Mexican War (1846-1848). The first post office in Yuba City was established on December 5, 1864. By 1870, a railroad had been built between Yuba City and Stockton and goods were being transported from both cities using wagons or stagescoaches. On May 7, 1872, Yuba City became an incorporated town with Judge James Burchfield as its first mayor. On November 3rd of that year Michael Jolas set up a business called "The Daily Review" which served as the newspaper for the new town of Yuba Crossing until it folded in 1895 after only six months existence due to economic reasons brought about by improved transportation methods and competition from other towns in central California such as Needles and Barstow. In 1896 Wm Gossett opened what is now known as Gossett's Drug Store on Main Street within minutes of starting operations after driving 800 miles from San Francisco to open his store there! Today Gossett's Drug Store still stands complete and has been home to various businesses including restaurants over the years including Papa John's Pizza! In 1933 Grocery Outlet opened on Broadway Avenue just north of downtown serving local residents until 1984 when it closed because it could not keep up with advances made by neighboring towns like Dixon and Orinda which had started offering larger sizes of grocery items! In 1948 when Interstate 80 was completed through central CA making it easier for people living near Sacramento to get supplies they started opening more stores closer to I-80! One such store was The Hardware Store located on Locust Street just east of downtown serving locals until 1994 when it closed also because it could not keep up with advances made by neighboring towns like Dixon and Orinda which had started offering larger sizes of grocery items! Today there are several small businesses remaining scattered throughout downtown (eXtreme Market is located northeast corner Main & 4th Streets) that serve customers primarily through mail order or online ordering but some have also begun selling groceries directly from their buildings! Downtown also contains several small parks that offer a variety activities such as soccer games etc., while further away there are large commercial areas described below if you're looking for retail sources specific to your needs rather than general shopping options available throughout all aspects of downtown!

In 1940, Camp Nelson Military Base was established here and has been an important military site ever since.
