Yuba City is located on the banks of the Umpqua River and its namesake creek. The first permanent settler in what is now Yuba City was John Day in 1847. He and his family moved from Victoria, British Columbia to what is now Siskiyou County in 1853 after purchasing land from the Klamath Tribe. The town of Redding was founded by George Pemberton and my father’s grandfather James Irvine on October 15, 1864 as part of an effort to link up two southern Oregon towns that were suffering because of gold rushes in Northern California: Redding had been founded by Captain Jonathan Gold about fifteen miles upstream from Yuba City on the Big Chief River and Redding had been founded by Mormon missionaries two years earlier on December 12th (now known as Christmas). At this time there were only a few buildings and no residents whenCaptain Pemberton arrived. He began construction of a trading post which he named “Redding” but abandoned it due to river flooding. A new post was built downstream near present day Horseshoe Bend where Captain Pemberton sold goods until September 1870 when he quit mining for lack of money In 1865 Jno Broughman came overland from Nevada with $6000 to help build a road from Sacramento across northern Nevada into Oregon along what would later be called the Stockton - Sacramento Trail .Broughman met Captain Pemberton at “Redding” and offered him some land for sale if he could make it through winter without assistance so Capt’n Pembroke set out January 1st 1865 with twelve men including himself & 3 dogsledded over snowdrifts towards Carson Valley where they met Lt Col Donner who had just completed his crossing over the mountains from Shasta Lake northeast of Angel fire ). They camped for 4 nights under high rocks before finally marching all night under full moon to Ansel Adams Station east of town which they reached February 5th 1865 next door to Captain Pembroke’s old place (present day Adobe) where they hired local shepherd boy John Woolridge to drive their horses back across Carson valley so that they could get supplies etc., but due to blizzard conditions returned home February 8th covered headlong into logs 2 stories deep at Cottonwood Meadows southeast of town while Capt’n Broughman went looking for themFebruary 11th found them dead with boots still on . That night word got out about Capt’n Broughman being lost so Deputy Sheriff Waddell organized a search party composed mostly men dwelling around Adobe led by Major Dodge March 14th 1865 discovered body2 days later buried beside farm house north side town limits behindandrocks Apostle Jimmie Moore started farming here about 1850 with six cows, 20 acres(the current site), three hay barns(northwest corner lot), twenty four hogsheads(today's water tower), one hundred chickens, five pigs, one milk cow and one horse

Yuba City is a city in Sutter County, California, United States. The population was 10,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Yuba" means "flat bottomed river" in the Northern Paiute language and comes from an observation of what he thought looked like a flat bottomed river on his rancho Creek campground near present-day Yuba City when he first saw it in 1859. The town began as a small settlement on the confluence of two rivers where they met to form the Río blanco (White River). In 1863, John C. Fremont founded Stockton and named it after himself because of its location at the headwaters of both rivers -northwest of Sacramento and east of San Francisco Bay. At first all who lived there were farmers or their families; but soon some miners started coming down with gold discoveries in northern California and many people became involved in mining life. By 1869, Yuba City had become an important center for goldmining operations. In 1902, General Grant made Yuba City one of his stops along his journey from Stockton to Yosemite National Park during his visit to that park. Afterward many people came here to retire or start anew their lives after leaving Yosemite Valley behind them for good...the area now known as North Park was developed around this time including several structures still standing today: Parsonage (1892), Masonic Lodge (1902), Wagon Wheel Inn and Arcade (1904), Gadsden Hotel (1920) and others impacted by residential growth that followed American entry into World War II when much surrounding agricultural land was requisitioned for military use purposes especially during the war's early years...many citizens served honorably in our Armed Forces during those years...Yuba City also experienced some significant industrial development through various manufacturing plants established here such as Alcoa Aluminum Company plant (1934), Kaiser Agro-Metals plant (1939), First Western Telephone plant(1950) and other companies that have since closed up shop or been replaced by new ones." Today, most residents are retirees from various businesses within town limits who enjoy watching schoolchildren play on nearby playgrounds or going shopping at local stores which offer fresh produce year-round or simply taking advantage of all that Yuba has to offer while away from home…Whisman Dam Recreation Area preserves much open space between communities which once supported dense human populations with large yards full of fruit trees, livestock pastures, mill ponds etc.—all gone now due largely to development over the last few decades especially along Interstate 20 about 8 miles south…The dam itself has not fared well with heavy relicating throughout its history including repeated flooding which caused extensive damage back then as well as poor maintenance currently causing water levels to get too high often impacting access roads below)—making it necessary for locals to take matters into their own hands eases accessibility but also createserva opportunities for hiking/skydiving/wading/kayaking/etc., making it a popular spot among visitors."
