Since the early 1900s, Yuba City has been a center for ammunition production in California. Ammunition manufacturing took place at several locations in the city, including the former Ponderosa Ammunition Plant on State Street. The plant was opened in 1911 and produced artillery ammunition, machine gun ammunition, and other munitions. In 1957, the plant was shut down and its products were redistributed to other facilities statewide. In recent years, Yuba City has become a hub for ammo storage and distribution as well as an important manufacturing center for reloadable firearms. The city is home to three reloading stores and two pistolsmiths who specialize in making new rounds for handguns and rifles. A number of companies also operate within Yuba City: Ammo Merchants Inc., which sells reloadable ammunition; Paladin Armory LLC., which manufactures firearms; and American-made Ammunition Sales Inc., which provides ammo to retailers throughout Northern California.

In 1892, Yuba City became the capital of California when it was moved from Sacramento. The city's first post office opened in 1894. In 1903, the state legislature passed a bill establishing a university in Yuba City and the city became its second campus. On October 21, 1916, Yuba City received its charter as an independent city and began to grow rapidly with new businesses and homes being built. On July 14, 1922, the town of North Yuba Falls incorporated into Yuba City but continued to share governance with it until January 1, 1923 when both towns were united under one government with separate councils. The population of Yuba City grew rapidly during World War II due to military deployment and the need for housing for soldiers stationed in nearby Feather River Valley towns. After the war ended in 1945, local businesses boomed as people returned home from overseas assignments. This period is also known for some important developments in modern community life such as the establishment of downtown Yuba City's first library which was dedicated on December 12, 1948; and incorporation of nearby communities North Yuba Falls ( businessman John Dimmick founded this community) and South Yuba (home to many small farms before becoming a suburb) within the city limits on November 15, 1959. Yuma County was formed on April 4, 1911 by combining parts of Mono County east of Sutter Boulevard with part of Placer County north of I-5 highway
Yuba City is a small city located in the Central Valley of California, about 120 miles (190 km) north of Sacramento. The population was 43,658 at the 2010 census. Yuba City is home to two universities: the University of California, Davis and the Northern State University. It is also home to six Fortune 500 companies: General Electric, Monsanto, Intel, Dow Chemical Co., PG&E and Syngenta. The area that now makes up Yuba City was first settled by Native Americans in the late 1800s. The town began to form around 1905 when some farmers found coal in the hills overlooking Yuba River and decided to settle there. By 1910, Yuba City had become an agricultural community with cereal crops such as corn and wheat grown on large plots. Coal mining began in 1923 and soon led to increasing production which helped contribute to growth for Yuba City over time. In 1960, when California became a state, Yuba City became one of its first municipalities. In 1984 it lost its status as a city but regained it in 1995 following passage of Proposition 209 which declared all states must provide public education through kindergarten through 12th grade regardless of wealth or social status. Today, while many businesses have moved out or closed down within sight of downtown due to competition from other areas in California or elsewhere within United States borders (the largest concentration being along Interstate 5), much remains unchanged from years past including local flavor and character - something that has made this city one of favorite tourist destinations for those looking for an escape from the mundane grind outside their doorsteps

The city of Yuba City was founded on December 12, 1866, by John C. Fremont and named for the Yuba River. It became a full-fledged town in 1870. The first post office was established in 1870, and the first store opened in 1872. In 1875, the first railroad arrived in Yuba City; it was called the Northern Pacific Railroad. The population of Yuba City increased rapidly during the 19th century as new gold discoveries were made in nearby Rushmore and Placer Counties. By 1905,Yuba City had a population of over 100,000 people. During World War I (1914-18), Yuba City played an important role as a supply center for California's military forces; it also served as an evacuation point for residents of Plumas County who were used in the war effort. Today, many businesses have been built within the walls of downtown Yuba City since its founding; some examples include First National Bank and San Francisco Insurance Company both located within downtown boundaries today.
