Yorba Linda is a small unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. The population of Yorba Linda was 5,220 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino– Riverside metropolitan area. The name Yorba Linda comes from two Spanish words meaning "redoubt" and "village". The first reference to Yorba Linda was in 1849 when Captain John C. Fremont listed it as a place on his journey down the Santa Ana River. In 1868, General Antonio Bandarrieta surveyed the area and named it for José de la Torre y Ortega, a Spanish military general who had helped drive Mexico out of California during the Mexican-American War. In 1892, James Irvine built an adobe settlement on what is now known as Irvine Boulevard. He named it Yorba Linda after his home state of California, where he had been born in 1850. When he died in 1904, his wife donated land to build a cemetery there. The town began to grow quickly due to its location near both San Bernardino and Riverside counties and its easy access to transportation; Interstate 10 bisected the town soon after it was established. The elementary school was founded in 1955; then followed High School (1958), Junior College (1960), Community College (1964), and University of Redlands (1966). By 1970, there were over 200 businesses in Yorba Linda with a population of 6,000 people! It wasn’t until 1984 that City Hall was built; this building served as the center for government operations until 2006 when new facilities were constructed downtown which include city hall annexes housing various municipal services including police department, fire department and water resources management bureau etc., city hall also contains library which has over 350 books/e-books subscribed by public library system staff members

Yorba Linda is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 16,755 at the 2010 census. The name derives from the local Yuma Pueblo people's word "yorbá" meaning "the place where you can see the ocean." Yorba Linda began as a small agricultural village located on the north shore of Lake Oroville near Orinda and developed into an important commercial and industrial center after being founded by John Sutter in 1859. After years of decline during World War II, growth resumed during the postwar period with new manufacturing plants such as General Motors and Ford Motor Company coming to town. In recent years, however, economic development has stalled due to competition from neighboring Livermore and Fremont. The town is named for José Francisco García Yorrilla (1786-1850), who purchased land in 1837 and laid out a townsite on what is now Yorba Linda Boulevard. Some early residents were José Mariano Aramburu (1793-1855), Jesús Ortiz y Arce (1801-1865), Manuel Nieto de la Rúa (1805-1878) and Fernando de Alvarado y Valdivia (1792-1868). A post office called Yorba Linda was established in 1859, but it was closed in 1865 because of Loma Prieta Earthquake. The first postmaster was Wm Hurlbut. The current post office opened on October 1, 1888. One of the first businesses in town was Josefina's grocery store which operated from 1859 until 1870 when it moved to 209th Street off Illingworth Avenue. This store became part of Pacific Gas & Electric Co.'s system when they bought this property in 1897. Another early business owner was Don Cornelius Fenton who built a sawmill along Mono Creek near present day Main Street in 1861 which produced lumber until 1865 when he sold it to James Jarrell for $5 per ton plus freight costs In 1858 John Sutter discovered gold at Sutter's Mill Site about 25 miles east of Bakersfield; henceforth known as Sutter's Mill Gold Rush site because this event led to discovery by Ulysses S Grant while he served as Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln Sutter sent his son Francis with twenty men into search for gold at what would become Yorba Linda although most did not return alive On March 24 1863 wagon train Murtaugh column made its way through badlands northeast of this location en route to Sacramento that night looking for trails leading southward towards rich fields beyond prospecting sites covered by evergreen oak forests soon they discovered water supplies obstructing their further progress sickened one man died 2 days later having exhausted all supplies including water they abandoned camp 17 miles northwest of here arrivingMarch 30 1863 within 5 hours or so after leaving point Reyes Valley race track overgrown today
The first Europeans to visit Yorba Linda were the Spanish in 1769. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded on November 3, 1821 by Father José de Arguelles. The mission was located near present-day Yorba Linda, California and served as a center for missionary work in Orange County. After Arguelles’ death in 1834, his replacement, Fray Marcos de Niza y Urdiala, continued the missions’ work at Yorba Linda. In 1848, the Mexican government sold portions of Orange County to John C. Fremont and his brother Eduardo for $6 million. Fremont named the new county Yorba Linda after San Diego County in Southern California where he had been born. On October 20, 1898 four students from Claremont College traveled to Yorba Linda while en route back to Los Angeles from a college basketball game at Long Beach Polytechnic Institute (LBI). On their return trip they took an old wagonroad that connected Yorba Linda with Long Beach and built a road using local logs and earth called the Central Road. This road is now known as State Route 508
