In 1803 it became part of Mexican state of Alta California under Governor Manuel Micheltorena y Costilla before becoming part of UTAF (United States Army First Brigade) during Mexican–American War under General Mariano Wolff. On October 25, 1847, it received its charter as an incorporated town from governor John Waley with 120 residents. On November 12th 1861 it was again renamed "Yorba Linda" after Rear Admiral David Eustace Green when he assumed command over USS Constitution's naval squadron during passage through Long Beach Channel for blockade duty off Southern California coast against Mexico besieging Los Angeles Harbor boats commanded by Jose Valdez Bunker; Green's squadron consisted of USS Constitution (1861), USS Porter (1862), USS Stewart (1864), USS Davenport (1865), USS Hinchcliffe (1866),USS Mifflin Bayard( 1870). The name changed back to "YorBA LEE" upon completionof military installation at Camp Roberts which used oceanography laboratories operated by Naval Observatory onshore
