In 1922, he sold his rancho to real estate developer Harry Weisberg for $3 million dollars and moved to Yorba Linda permanently. He built a large home here called "The Castle" which still stands today.. He played an important role in development of the cityscape around here with its many well-known landmarks like The Castle Inn and The YMCA Gymnasium.. His philanthropy helped make the area one of Silicon Valley's most thriving areas with numerous businesses flourishing thanks to him.. Today, there are over 930 businesses operating within 10 square blocks inside downtown Yorba Linda according to their website . There are also several universities located in or near this town including University Avenue Community College (UACC), Western Junior College (WJCC), Diablo Valley College (DVC), and City College (CCC). In 1848, Captain George Hearn founded what would become Yorba Linda as part of Rancho Tejon. The town was originally named for John Yorba, an Englishman who had settled in San Francisco Bay Area in 1827. The first white person to settle in Yorba Linda was James Fenton on November 10, 1849. He bought land from José Castro for $4 per acre (0.50 km²). After Fenton's purchase, several other investors purchased land around him including Wm Hovey on December 12, 1850 and built cabins called "Haven" and "Hope." By late 1851 there were 5 buildings with a population of 25 people: 4 stores (Fenton's Store & Saloon; Elisha Goode's store; Rufus Bickle & Son grocery store), 1 mill (Fenton Bros gristmill), 2 blacksmiths (John Sauer & Amos Morse), 1 doctor ( Dr Jonathan Edwards) In 1861 Captain George Hearn sold his interest in Rancho Tejon to Jose Castro for $14 per acre ($270 per km²). This left Yorba Linda open space with no public water or electrical services until 1888 when it became part of Los Angeles City Limits

In 1852, the company founded Mission San Antonio de Padua in Yorba Linda and began construction of the current church and mission buildings. In 1865, the company founded Mission San Fernando Rey de España in Yorba Linda. In 1868, the company built Mission Santa Clara de Asís in Yorba Linda. In 1907, a new railroad was built through Yorba Linda and nearby communities including Santa Paula and Anaheim. This led to an increase in business for the local businesses along with more people moving into these towns. The development of this new railroad also led to more people coming into contact with Spanish culture which helped contribute to some of the town's unique features such as its Spanish-speaking population and its wide variety of architecture
