The town was born on July 4th, 1887, when the brothers Charles and Harry Irvine founded the first school in Yorba Linda. TheIrvine School District currently operates the school. The town was originally named “Newmarket” after George Newmark who donated land to the town. The name “Yorba Linda” was chosen by members of a local committee which included James Irvine and his brother Charles. On December 15th, 1886, residents of Yorba Linda voted to change their name to “Yorba Linda” after becoming interested in it due to its similarity to Mount Washington in North Carolina. The incorporation of Yorba Linda into Orange County took place on November 3rd, 1889. It was at this time that John Condon became the first mayor of the new city. There were many highlights during this time including prohibition which started in 1920 and ended two years later when it was repealed by Congress under President Woodrow Wilson; World War II; both Franklin D. Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan being inaugurated as president; and Oscar Hammerstein II creating his musical “West Side Story” which initially premiered at Radio City Music Hall before traveling all over America before finally being performed live at Lincoln Center two years later in 1951. This period also saw some major changes within the community such as the opening of Hacienda Heights High School in 1949 which served as an important educational opportunity for inner-city kids; construction of Interstate 5 near downtown between 1941-1946; replacement of original water mains that resulted in unusual flooding throughout much of Orange County during 1957-1959; establishment of Riverside Park and Playground adjacent to Hacienda Heights Elementary School - one of only two public parks open exclusively for children until 1969; development offshoot called Centerville around 1955 featuring homesites built specifically for out-of-town visitors along I-5W between Valencia Street/Marriott Avenue/Centerville Drive etc.; growth associated with Sears Tower apartments starting up around 1962 followed by other high rises such as tower 710 opened up near campus eventually leading to loss or destruction most notably One Thousand Oaks Towers opened up next door representing one more example where developers did not consult with locals about potential towers etc.; increase associated with population growth following Valley Village movement beginning around 1965 followed by increasing competition among merchants resultant in several store closings culminating with closure/demolition of majority if these buildings circa 1970s Today there are few reminders that Orange County once ranked second behind San Francisco Bay Area when it comes to population density although there are numerous restaurants serving Mexican food available should you feel like travelling down memory lane while living somewhere else today!
