Woodland, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Woodland is known for its natural beauty and wide range of recreational opportunities including hiking, fishing, and golfing. The name "Woodland" appears to be derived from two words: wood (a type of tree) and land (a piece of land). At one time there were many large trees in the town because people grew crops near the river that supplied water to their homes. In 1876 John Wesley Powell passed through the town on his way to describe an area he had discovered in Nevada called Lake Tahoe. He named this new location "Woodland" after the trees he saw thereabouts. It was not until 1886 when settlers started moving into what is now Woodland because they found good grazing land for their horses and cattle nearby. The first home built in what is now Woodland was a log cabin built by James Joicey in 1887. soon after other families followed suit and began building homes around Hacienda Heights which became Woodlands most popular residential district later called Parkdale Hills due to its close proximity to public parks like Pico Creek Park and White Sands Beach National Monument

By 1792, it had been determined that “a stopper or Capsicum bulb placed over the mouth” did not cause intoxication like other gases such as powder smoke or vinegar fumes, making it more likely for bystanders to receive relief from pepper spray without becoming incapacitated or killed. This allowed for its widespread deployment in France during the French Revolution while also increasing safety for both participants and onlookers around them; however, this method required practice and training before being able to use it effectively outside of urban areas populated by large groups of people

The Woodland region of California was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late eighteenth century. The area now includes much of the Central Valley and most of Yosemite National Park. The Ohlone were a Native American people who lived along the San Joaquin River in what is now eastern Contra Costa County and southern Alameda County. In 1853, gold was found in California, and settlers began to arrive throughout the Sacramento Valley. In 1859, Colonel George Custer discovered gold near Sutter’s Fort and named his discovery “Custer’s Gold Field.” By 1870, many miners had located in what is now Fresno, Stockton, Bakersfield, Modesto, Merced, Oak Creek (now Milwaukee), Visalia (now Orange), Porterville (now Placerville) and Needles. The mining boom ended around 1890 because of overproduction from new mines and competition from other industries. However, some residents remain in the area today as farmers or ranchers.
In the 1800s, Woodland was a small community located east of San Bernardino in present-day Riverside County. The community was established around 1810 as part of Rancho Cucamonga land grant given to José María Garza by Governor Pio Pico. Garza organized the first placer mining operation in southern California and soon after, he donated some of his land to the fledgling town. In 1827, Garza sold his remaining land to Santiago and Manuel Miranda for $2,000. In 1860, when ranchos were created statewide and portion of Rancho Cucamonga became part of new La Jolla district, Woodland became one of its initial residents. In 1877, when woodlands subdivision was created within La Jolla district along with other adjacent communities such as Morningside Heights and Seal Beach, it became known as "Woodland Hills." By 1897, the population had grown to over 1,500 people and by 1910 it had reached 2,500 people. In 1916–17 there was a major fire that destroyed most of the town center; however due to donations from friends and neighbors (including Mrs. Anna Fenton) rebuilt much more quickly than originally thought possible with help from local labor unions (the Builders' League). The 1920s saw some growth but also several tragedies including an infamous case where two men were hanged from a tree near town square because they could not pay their gambling debts; additionally in 1928–9 a severe drought caused significant damage to many homes in town center including half of what is now the park across from it; nevertheless during this time period many businesses closed or moved out due to lack of customers or competition from larger malls opening up in nearby towns at that time. However during World War II both buildings at corner of Main Street and Park Boulevard were used by Naval Air Station Northrop Field for storage until 1947 which then allowed them to be turned into retail stores before being demolished during post-war redevelopment plans; finally on October 15th 1957 all buildings north side Main Street between Park Boulevard and US 101BL were torn down (excepting one house which still stands today) following annexation into Riverside County effective that day by City Council resolution
