The history of Woodland can be traced back to when humans first arrived in what is now San Bernardino County. In 1827, Spanish explorers discovered an area that is now Woodland while exploring southern California. They called this area Rancho Niguel because it included a valuable piece of land on which they built a small house. The name Niguel probably comes from Spanish meaning "old growth." After their discovery, Spain began to explore new areas in Southern California and decided that Rancho Niguel would make an ideal location for a new military post because of its strategic location between two important trade routes: Route 66 and Mono Lake. In 1919, after years of discussion and debate among various stakeholders including soldiers stationed at nearby Signal Hill Air Force Base and representatives from both local communities and Mexico City, Congress passed legislation authorizing sale of all federal lands west of Interstate 5 northward to state governments for development into CDPs with maximum population limits no less than 25 percent Native American or Alaskan Natives (or their descendants). This act created San Bernardino County as well as Los Angeles County outposts along I-5 corridor; these counties were eventually joined together in 1913 when LASA became Californian statutory agency responsible for all public lands east of I-5 outside urban areas In 1994, following more than 20 years of planning by CalFire & US Forest Service employees working with CADF&P officials, US Forest Service made natural gas available on 2/3rds acreage within San Bernardino & Riverside Counties adjoining USFS jurisdiction via leases granted under Surface Land Management Act Amendments – also known informally as “Gas Leases” – effective immediately subjecting onlyeast side landowners & businesses thru easements restricting fire use not affecting surface rights or access thereto without prior written consent from respective parties

When the first Europeans set foot in what is now California, they wereMaps had not yet been drawn up. The area that is now Woodland was part of the Mexican Empire and therefore there was little known about it. However, as time passed and more people started to move into this area, they realized that there was a great potential for business and development here. One of the earliest businesses to start up in Woodland was a tannery. This business did very well for itself and allowed for the town to grow rapidly. Over time, other businesses cropped up such as grocery stores, banks, construction firms, and more. As things continued to develop in Woodland, people began to realize how important it would be to have an open-air market where they could sell their products directly to the public. This led to the establishment of the first farmers’ market in Woodland back in 1896! The market quickly became popular among local residents and continues today as one of the most popular spots in town. In recent years, many new developments have sprung up around town including an arena which will soon be home to the local soccer team (the Los Angeles Galaxy), a movie theater complex called Regal Cinemas (one of California’s leading exhibitors), a new shopping mall called Town Center West which has been built on land that formerly belonged to a logging company, and much more! All of these projects are helping contribute considerably towards making Woodland one of California’s fastest-growing communities.
Woodland was founded on January 24, 1846 by Captain David Waddell and his brother-in-law, James Irvine. The town was named for the woodlands surrounding it. The Waddells were the first people to settle in what is now Woodland County. In 1850, they built a cabin on the hill above their farm. On July 6 of that year, they married Anna Maria Hilliard. The next year, Captain Waddell and his men discovered gold near where the town now stands. They started a gold rush and soon had many buildings in town built to house the miners. The Town of Woodland grew quickly and by 1861 there were over 100 residents in the community. By 1865, most of the miners had left for other fields but some remained to build more homes and businesses in town. In 1876, David Waddell sold his interest in the town to Charles Fenton who ran it until 1925 when it passed into hands of education department of California State University at San Bernardino (CSUSB). In 1958 CSUSB leased from US Forest Service land adjacent to their campus which became an open-air museum called "The Woodlands" with displays about local history including mining experiences at nearby Bloomfield Hills Gold Mines
