The land that is now Woodland was first used for farming in the late 1800s. The area was teeming with wild animals, and the people could only hunt them when there were enough game around. By the early 1900s, the farmers had started to grow crops and build houses, and by 1910, Woodland had a population of about sixty people. In 1916, Woodland became part of Pasadena County.
