Woodland, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The town was founded in 1868 by Mormons who fled from Brigham Young's Utah Territory. The name "Woodland" comes from the local cedar trees that lined the town's streets. The town is now a small community of around 2,000 people, with most residents living near the university and various businesses. Woodland has a rich history dating back to its founding as a Mormon outpost. The first European settlers in what is now Woodland County were Frenchmen who arrived during the 17th century seeking trade with Native Americans. In 1821, Mexican settlers named Santiago de Arce discovered and claimed land near present day Woodland for Mexico. However, America gained control ofMexico in 1847 and began to settle this area as part of their efforts to gain control over all of North America. As American settlers moved into this area they brought with them their own culture and traditions which gradually blended into the local Indian cultures. In 1862, Mormon pioneers traveling through Central California reached what is now Woodland County via wagon road deep inside Mexico. Upon arrival they found that there was not enough water to support their livestock so they built several irrigation ditches on their new land which became known as "the Canals." These canals provided water for many crops and later became major tourist attractions for locals and visitors alike due to their beauty and engineering feat! The growth of Woodland was steady until about 1920 when World War II caused an increase in population east of Highway 99 due to wartime demand for materials such as munitions and paper products unavailable domestically. This led to increased taxes on wooded areas adjacent to towns like Woodlands which resulted in decreased acreage available for farming while also reducing woodlands' access to sunlight and moisture which negatively affected tree health and production over time . Since 2000 however, much progress has been made towards restoring these forests by increasing funding supportive agencies such as Sustainability Institute at UC Davis have helped manage zoning laws that favor more forest types including oak-hickory mixed oak/hickory woodland along with riparian corridors connecting wetlands directly upstream (to improve watershed health)

In 1870, Woodland became part of the newly formed Kern County and in 1893 its own city government was created.
