The Windsor Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1852. It was the first rifle and pistol club in California, and the first in the United States. The club met at a neighboring farmhouse until it moved to its current location on Main Street in 1864. The present clubhouse, which is built on the site of an old mill, was erected in 1928. In 1934, the club became a member of CMP (California NRA). From 1936 through 1942, Windsor served as Headquarters for CMP’s Western Region. In 1941-1942, Windsor also served as Headquarters for NRA Western Region Affairs. In 1954-1955, Windsor became a member of NRA (National Rifle Association). Today, Windsor is one of only two clubs remaining in California that are members of both NRA and CPRA (Citizens Protection Action League). Up until this time there were no effective means to prevent injuries from missiles fired from firearms. A Frenchman named Nicolas-Jacques Conte designed what is now known as the “Conte Eye Mask” which he patented in 1795. This device consisted of a leather band around your head with an elastic strap holding it in place over your right eye

Windsor, California is a small town located in Modoc County, California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Windsor is part of the Bakersfield– discretion area and it is also within the Kern River watershed. The first people to live in Windsor were Spanish-American pioneers who arrived during the Gold Rush period in 1848. They named the community San Lorenzo de los Padres after St. Lawrence, Patron Saint of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. One of their first businesses was a post office which opened on October 15, 1850. When California became a state in 1850, its residents voted to name their new county Modoc County after General George Armstrong Custer and his regiment that had fought in Mexico's War of Independence against Mexican forces under Santa Anna. In 1872, when Yuba County was created from portions of Modoc and Kern counties, Windsor became part of that new county as well. In 1904, when King Cosmas Swingle defaulted on his $5 million bond issue and went bankrupt, China National Bank offered him $1 million to redeem it if he could get Chinese immigrants interested in investing in his business interests outside of China proper so they would not have to go through with dishonesty while trying to do business thereon (the whole debacle led eventually to direct American involvement with how China handled European debt defaults). As part of this agreementswingle formed a company with Wason Hines & Co., Incorporated called Chinatrade Trust Company (later renamed Shanghai Trading Company) which did business out of buildings at 6th and Mission Streets near what is now known as Kaiser Wilhelm University (then known as Western State College). The original Chinatrade building still stands today adjacent to Kaiser Wilhelm University across from Highway 101A/C (now I-15). Accordingly over time various other companies were set up by various individuals or groups associated with either Chinese immigration or investments into America including: Merchants' National Bank which operated out of what is now Pacific Gas & Electric; Armour Financial Corporation which functioned as an investment banking firm for Chinese organized crime figure Johnny Chung; Jardine Securities Limited which acted as an agent for several powerful Chinese merchants who controlled much commerce inside China; First Commercial Trust Company Ltd./First Security Trust Company Ltd., both based out of City Hall Building on Market Street between Second and Third Streets; New England Banking Corporation operating out of 10 Downing Street opposite White’s Drug Store on Polk Street; Oriental Bequest Fund Corporation whose purpose was unknown but likely connected with some form money laundering activities by some element within Chinatown using donations from wealthy ladies such as Mrs Wang Lianxing etc.; finally Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited based out Paint Branch Road east side between Fourth Avenue South and Union Boulevard.) It should be noted that many individual investors/businesses did not actually involve themselves directly with any mainland Chinese entities until later following World War II when U.S.-China relations began deteriorating due largely to Communist espionage activities although some individuals/groups such as Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited continued doing business primarily through their Hong Kong affiliate until the early 1990s.) Another significant factor contributing towards increasing stability and prosperity over time has been local government cooperation termed “Civic Plaza Partnership” between city hall staff members assisted by non-profit organizations like Chamber Of Commerce Business Improvement District (CCBD), Rotary Club Foundation etc.). Windsor served as a trading post on the eastern end of the American West for many years and was known for its delicious apples. In 1905, Windsor became an incorporated municipality and experienced rapid growth due to its natural resources and production of agricultural goods. The population reached 10,000 by 1920 and 20,000 by 1930. In 1954, the town passed a resolution proclaiming itself an open-air nuclear testing site because of its proximity to Livermore National Laboratory. After years of debate and public opposition, Windsor finally voted to become a city in 1959. However, this decision came with heavy financial burdens that forced it to file for bankruptcy in 1974. Today, Windsor is home to a few small businesses and has declined since its heyday as a commercial center.
