The store operated until 1875 when it closed due to lack of customers or competition from other stores that had opened up around town during that time period. In 1916, Mrs. Hilda Ladd opened her first restaurant called The Lion's Den which operated until 1923 when she moved to her current location across from City Hall where she continues to operate today as a steakhouse and banquet hall known simply as Hilda's). The first post office in what is now Windsor was established on September 3rd1869 by George A Smith with the name Willows Post Office #1 serving residents of Los Angeles County only until 1870 when it changed hands several times before finally being sold to Jno Slattserman on November 5th 1870 who renamed it Slattsburgh Post Office #2 after himself and his father-in-law Jacob Straussman Sr.. Straussman continued to serve as the PO until his death on December 10th 1880 effective December 14th 1880 while also serving as Mayor of Vernal from 1889 through 1897 under then Governor John Pahr appointed him High Sheriff for Inyo Co.. On January 1st 1907 City officials voted to change the name from Slattsburgh to Windsor effectiveJanuary 1st 1907 .
