The town has a rich history dating back to 1887 when two brothers named Amos and Alonzo Windsor moved from their family's farmstead on North Main Street in Folsom to start their own community. They named their new community Windsor after the capital city of England, where they had grown up watching American movies on television. The first store in town opened its doors in 1889 and soon began to serve customers from surrounding rural areas as well as those living within blocks of downtown. In 1912, due to growing population pressures and changes brought about by World War I, Kern County was organized into several districts including East Kern Valley District (now West Kern Valley), South Kern Valley District (now Orange County), and North Kern Valley District (now Fresno). The district that included Windsor changed name to North Kern Valley District because most people there lived north of Pershing Road which ran through the middle of the county then east-west bisecting it along its northern boundary before terminating at Interstate 5. During World War II, many residents took up arms against Nazi Germany and helped fight alongside America's war effort; some even rose to positions such as sergeant major or lieutenant colonel. Many members of the community also served with distinction during conflicts throughout Asia Pacific Theater; for example, three men from Windsor were awarded the Medal Of Honor for heroism while serving with U.S Forces Japan during World War II: John Pemberton Jr., Lawrence Mudgett, and Clifford Berryman Jr.). After World War II ended, many residents chose not to move away from hometown but instead stay put economy-wise while continuing operations like retail businesses like hardware stores or grocery stores until more recent times when other nearby communities emerged such as Bakersfield or Visalia which have since replaced much if not all aspects of what little commerce existed here prior to this time period including large hospitals/cafes devoted entirelyTo patient care with no real commercial enterprise providing anything else aside From entertainment Type services
Windsor, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Windsor was founded by John C. Fremont on November 10, 1845 as the town of Fremontville. It became a City on January 1, 1903 after it was annexed by Contra Costa County. The first post office in Windsor was established on July 6, 1846 by George Winton and took its name from the original township of Fremontville. The first settlers were farmers who arrived from eastern England in droves during the late 1840s and early 1850s. They soon realized that they would not be able to do much with their land alone and decided to seek help from local officials in order to get permission to build homes and businesses. One of the earliest efforts to get this type of assistance came from Supervisor Amos Sohl who approached Governor John Pahlen about creating an agricultural district within Contra Costa County which would offer financial assistance for new settlers. After some deliberation, Pahlen approved the request and appointed Sohl as one of his commissioners to look into possibilities for expanding agriculture in southeastern Contra Costa County. On November 10, 1845, John Cavanaugh (1812-1885) donated 4 acres (16 ha) of what is now known as Riverside Drive east of present-day Windsor Boulevard for use as a public square or marketplace where people could purchase goods or services without having to go into town center where there were no sidewalks or other amenities available. This area became known as "Fremont Square" because it lay along what is now Riverside Drive between University Avenue and Third Street near today's State Fairgrounds property line northwest of Interstate 680 Exit 8A (now called Harmon Road). Later that year on December 3rd John Cavanaugh donated another 4 acres (16 ha) just east of current-day Clairmont Avenue for use as an Agricultural School which eventually evolved into Contra Costa College today! The total donation amounted to 24 acres (10 ha). In 1848 another act was passed titled An Act To Encourage Settlement In And Around What Is Now Windsor By Appropriating Money For That Purpose And Allowing Some Land Within Its Limits To Be Acquired Which Was Donated By A Person Named Josephine Morse (1786-1864), Widow Of Jonathan Drake Morse(1775-1846), Mother Of Benjamin Fenton Morse(1800-1881)). This act allowed more than 50 families already living in northwestern Contra Costa County - many intermarried with those living in nearby San Francisco - access to 640 acres (248 ha) vacant land located within present day Windsor Township northeast of Highway 680 exit 8A which had been offered since 1796 by Colonel James Lyon Johnston Jr.(1763-1828), sonof General James Johnston(1747–1792)) under the auspices OF THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FOR PRESERVATION OF LANDS AND PEOPLE! It should be noted that this grant did not include any water rights so it cannot be considered part of traditional ranching history! The original Post Office building still stands today adjacent to First Baptist Church located at 209 North Amherst Ave., also home to Community Christian Fellowship which opened its doors on September 6th 2009; built using proceeds from Downtown redevelopment project
