Bullets in Wildomar, California date back to the early 1800s. The first recorded shot in Wildomar was fired by Capt. John L. Sutter on July 4th, 1851 while he and his men were camped near the present day site of the University of California at Berkeley. At that time, bullets were made froma variety of materials including wood, leather, cottonwood bark, and even animal dung. The first firearms to be used in wildomar were rifles made by Captain Sutter and his men. These guns were muzzleloaders which fired balls with a wooden stock and a metal barrel. By 1860, rifle ammunition had become available which consisted of lead shot (gravel) projectiles instead of ball ammo. In 1892-1896, William Harker built a gunsmith shop located on First Street in Wildomar for use by the town’s various law enforcement agencies and private citizens alike. This building still stands today within the boundaries of the UC Davis campus bounds as part of the Harker Law School Administration Building complex. In 1898-1902 Captain Edward Bendix developed anhydrous nitric acid (HNO3) explosives which became commonly used with handguns for hunting large game animals such as lions and elephants during this era when pistols were not yet common firearms across Europe so ammunition was more expensive to procure

The town became an agricultural center after settlers developed irrigated land around the old Mission San Francisco de Asís Millrace and the Humboldt River. By 1920, Wildomar had a population of 553 residents. In 1952, Wildomar doubled its size when it annexed nearby Citrus Heights. In 1969, Wildomar merged with neighboring Citrus Heights to form the city of Citrus Heights-Wildomar. The merger resulted in significant change to both towns as they began to compete for businesses and services. In 2001, Wildomar lost its status as an incorporated municipality when it merged with Citrus Heights into the city of Citrus Heights-Wildomar; however, it remains part of Kern County government. The economy of Wildomar has been limited mostly to agriculture since its founding; however, manufacturing has become more important since 1990 when local companies began producing mobile products such as phone cases and laptop computers using advanced 3D printing technology.
