Wildomar is a small town in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 2,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the South Bay Area and has a rich history dating back to 1871 when it was named for Captain John Wildomar, who explored the area. The first post office opened at Wildomar on February 14, 1871; it was moved to its current location east of downtown on May 25 of that year. For many years it was one of three small settlements located along Farmington Canyon Road northeast of Interstate 5 near present day Glendale Heights; other two were North Hollywood and Burbank. In 1909 their were merged into one town with ZIP code 91601 due to population growth within that zip code resulting from increased commuting opportunities resultant from easy access to Caltrain Station located just northwest of town center on Ventura Boulevard northwest of I-5. Although initially agricultural based there are now some major businesses such as Staples which opened up in 1978 followed by Apple Inc., Charter Communications Company headquarters being built in 2007 across the street immediately southwest across I-5 from Staples plaza soon after construction began In recent years there has been significant development around both Downtownwildomar where several large housing developments have been constructed such as One City Center - Topanga Canyon Village & Topanga Hills Plaza - all adjacent to each other on Gilmore Avenue between Olympic Blvd & Pico Boulevard - bringing much needed retail traffic into town centre while also providing new public spaces for people living or working close by like Topanga Park Middle School’s Playground & Dogpatch Park which are adjacent too Central Library
