Westminster is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Visalia-Tulare Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Westminster were Juan Rodríguez Caballero and his men who arrived on horseback from Mexico City on November 15, 1769. They named their new land after London England because of the similarity of their appearance to that city's buildings at that time. The first post office in Westminster was established in 1885. A local mill owner, Wm Hargrave, donated land for a school which opened in 1889. The original building burned down but was rebuilt with funds raised by citizens and businesses around town. In 1902 a second school was built across the street from the first one and it still stands today as Westminster High School. In 1912 an oil well was drilled near present day downtown and soon enough there began to be questions about whether or not this well would ever be finished due to problems with water seeps and underground gas pockets throughout Kern County surrounding it. After years of debate and research by scientists from all over America, it finally became clear that this well could not actually be stopped since it connected directly to an existing natural gas field off the coast of Bakersfield which had been developed without any concern for environmental compatibility or public health hazards! In 1916 Westminster voters passed an ordinance granting them self-government within the limits of Kern County under a system known as “Directive Rule” whereby all governing ordinances (except those concerning social welfare) were passed through a committee appointed by the Board of Supervisors rather than throughchanneled countywide vote like then-current government structure! It wasn’t until 1949 when Kern County Supervisor Ralph Jorgensen introduced legislation proposing incorporation into San Bernardino County so as to ease some jurisdictional issues between both counties caused by how much territory each had acquired since 1871 when they were both consolidated into one single county! This legislation failed however due primarily because many white residents who lived in Kern County felt overwhelmed by changes taking place right outside their door while black residents living within San Bernardino felt left out and frustrated with what they saw as preferential treatment given to San Bernardino over their home county! However, following decades of lobbying by various groups such as Veterans for Peace & Human Rights Committee & Westside Citizens Association – all working together unsuccessfully against annexation efforts spearheaded by Supervisor Jorgensen himself – Riverside Countyshipping port facility eventually became available making future annexations much more likely given its proximity! Finally incorporation occurred on January 1st 1960 pursuant to these same regulations becoming fully operational under name “Westminster Municipal District” effective immediately! With this change came increased development opportunities including professional offices, high tech companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Corporation & Sun Microsystems - all relocating here during waves of economic growth beginning back in the early 1990s!! Today Westminster remains one of America's most entrepreneurial communities full of ideas yet always looking towards opportunity !!

Westminster is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 23,653 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth-largest city in San Bernardino County and the third-largest city in the Inland Empire. The name "Westminster" comes from Westminster Abbey which was once located here. The first permanent settler in what is now Westminster was George Cooley who built a cabin near present day Downtown on October 10, 1848. He named it "Cooley's Dome." A post office called Westminster was established in 1853, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1857, James Irvine settled on land east of downtown west of Highway 66 and south of University Avenue to establish Irvine Rancho de Anza. In 1860, John Latham bought 640 acres (248 ha) northeast of downtown for $800 from Cooley and erected a ranch house thereon known as Latham's Rancho Nuevo or New Rancho Annexe. On November 14 of that year he filed a plat with the City of Los Angeles for an incorporated town called Santa Ana with himself as its first mayor and proprietor; this application was accepted without objection by Mayor Wm Hovey on December 12th same year . On January 7th 1861, about 20 men comprising Company D No 8 US Infantry marched northward from Pasadena under Captain Richard Sanger to join General Antonio Valencia at Mount Whitney where they were to encamp foraging for supplies before continuing their march up into Mexico Valley whence they would proceed thenceandy towards El Paso where they were to rendezvous with General Worth at Jicarilla Pass on February 1st 1861; but before reaching Jicarilla Pass they learned that General Worth had been recalled to Washington due to wariness of Mexican intentions towards American possessions therein - so upon reaching El Paso passed through that place unopposed onFebruary 5th 1861 having accomplished their original destination - arrived at his headquarters 2 days earlier than intended by reason thereof Upon learning this news Captain Sanger took his men back downrange againt Monterey Junction & returned safely home - leaving behind them some 900 lbs (400 kg) Provisional Ordnance stores which still remain today within easy reach of any military base or outpost anywhere within U.S.-Mexican boundaries despite repeated attempts by both local & federal authorities over many years unsuccessfully/unsuccessfully to seize or take these goods By 1863 Santa Ana had become an organized community including 4 wards: East Ward (now Boyle Heights), West Ward (now Chinatown), South Ward (now Little Tokyo), & North Ward; each ward electing one delegate To the State Assembly At large there being no committee type government existing within this new community Newark also became an organized community during this time with 3 wards: East Side Newark (Avenue du Commerce/Plymouth Street), West Side Newark (Broadwalk/Queen Street), & South Side Newark (Washington Boulevard). Each ward electing one delegate To The State Assembly At large There being no committee type government existing within this new community All three towns gradually lost their self gov't status as per state law when newly formed Riverside County came into existence effective January 3rd 1916 With most of those living within Riverside County becoming citizens thereof rather then registering with either cities or village governments within those counties Most likely because few people wanted to move away from friends & family situated inside those 2 county limits anyway Sooner rather than later all 3 communities effectively merged into Riverside County although Santana Park remains separate from both East & West sides thereof ever since
