On July 15th, 1886 (or July 4th), Drs John Tingley & Augustus Earle paid $5200 to purchase 640 acres south of present day Park Boulevard for development into what would become Westfield Shopping Center which opened on November 16th 1921 by Philadelphia Phillies owner Harry Blackmun Sr.. Other early settlers included Hiram Bingham who settled on Lots 1-3 east side ofpresent day Park Boulevard in 1880 and Frank Bamberger who purchased Lots 1-3 west sideof present day Park Boulevard in 1883 from Hiram Bingham’s son Amos Jr.. On December 8th 1903 Mayor Hahn presented to City Council Mrs Fannie Yates for her donation Lady Bird Johnson Palace which still stands today across from City Hall plaza off Eastern Parkway between First Street & Euclid Avenue

Westminster is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,391 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Westminster were the Ohlone Native Americans who came from Northern California in the late 18th century and early 19th century. They were followed by Anglo-Americans during the Gold Rush of 1848 and built their first permanent buildings in 1853. The town was named for King George III of Great Britain who had visited California in 1769 when he was on his way back from Mexico City with an expedition led by Governor Pio Pico. In 1858, gold was found near Westminster and development began rapidly; new streets were laid out, schools were built (the first public school being opened on February 12, 1860), businesses were established, and a post office was founded. In 1870, James Fenton bought land southwest of Westminster and developed it into Kern County's largest citrus grove which produced over 150 million oranges per year until World War II when production stopped due to climate change. By 1915 there were only a few scattered homes remaining in the once thriving community but according to oral history many people still lived there through WWII because they could not find work outside agriculture or industry after the end of World War II. After WWII most residents left for various reasons including competition from larger towns like Del Norte and Bakersfield closer to Interstate 5; lack of available housing; higher prices for goods available within walking distance of downtown; or fear that West Valley would become another Chinatown if development continued southward beyond Ninth Street Canyon where Chino Hills now stands
