In the late 1970s and early 1980s, a movement began to prohibit guns from being displayed on t-shirts in schools across California. This prohibition led to an increase in the number of firearm-related t-shirt sales in Westminster.
In 1853, Westminster was founded as a small town in Kern County by ranchers and farmers. By 1906, the town had grown to over 10,000 people. The population of Westminster has remained relatively stable over the years, with only a few thousand residents moving to other nearby towns during the heyday of its growth. The history of Westminster is intertwined with that of California. In 1853, when gold was discovered in California, many people started traveling to find it. One such person was James Sutter, who traveled from Sacramento to Kern County in search of the precious metal. When he found nothing but sagebrush and scrub brush for his gold claims, he abandoned his quest and returned home. However, Sutter's discovery ushered in a period of great growth for California because so many prospectors followed his lead. Eventually, the area around Westminster became known as "the breadbasket of California." This success led to increased demand for goods and services brought in by the burgeoning community. Many local businesses thrived during this time; including clothing stores, grocery stores, lumberyards, printing presses and more. In addition to these business ventures there were also social organizations formed throughout this time; such as The Methodist Episcopal Church (now known as First Presbyterian Church), The Republican Club and various other groups that helped contribute to social stability within the town during its early years. This prosperity didn't last forever though- after World War I ended came economic recession which affected all areas of Kern County. Additionally, new immigrants began arriving into Westminster at an increasing pace throughout the 1920s and 30s- making it difficult for locals to keep up with changing trends within their own community- leading some businesses owners to close their doors altogether while others decided not To open any new locations due to simply financial constraints (although some did still manage operate). However despite these challenges , despite struggling through tough times together as a community we've seen our way back up again several times! For example ,in 2002 we successfully hosted both State Fairgrounds & Christmas Tree Showcase at Our Lady Of Peace Catholic School- marking our 3rd consecutive year hosting major events at school Grounds! And on July 17th 2016 we welcomed 2nd Generation kids from El Sobrante - adding another dimension(!!!)to our already rich cultural heritage!

Westminster, California is a small town in southern Kern County, California. It is located on the east side of the large Kern River Valley and is surrounded by hills. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in what is now Westminster were farmers who came from eastern Mexico in the late 19th century. They raised crops and ranched animals and built some of the first homes in the area. In 1907, an oil well was drilled near Westminster and production began making soap from Kern County's sandstone for sale throughout California. The town started to grow quickly around this time as people came to work at the oil company and then at other businesses that sprung up around it. In 1915, Westminster became part of Tulare County when it was carved out of Kern Counties along with Lancaster, Livermore, Tehachapi, Mono Lake and others. It grew rapidly again as people started coming here to find jobs in agriculture or industry. By 1960, there were over 1,000 residents living hereabouts. However, during most of these years Westminster has been known only as a small town with a few hundred residents because much of its economic activity takes place outside of town limits
Westminster was founded on November 14, 1846 by brothers George and Josiah Westminster. The first post office in the town was established in 1847. The town was named for the then-newly created kingdom of Great Britain. It became a city on July 1, 1889.
