Westminster, California is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Westminster were the Spanish in 1821 and 1824. A mission was built here in 1835 by Father Junipero Serra and missionaries Juan Bautista Cabrillo and Gaspar de Portolà. In 1848, Mexican troops burned down the mission and left Westminster without any permanent residents or property. Spanish settlement began again with American settlers in 1850 when John Cranch came from New Mexico Territory and founded Rancho Niguel near present-day Cathedral City. Two years later, he married Maria del Carmen Guerrero, daughter of an adobe farmer named José de la Guerra y Aguilar. After several failed attempts to establish a ranchos near Westminster during the next 30 years, Cranch succeeded in doing so in 1860 on what became known as Rancho Santa Anita (now parts of Riverside). Cranch's operation grew rapidly as he developed herds of Hereford cattle that crossed the trackless Mojave Desert from southern California to deliver milk to Northern Californians during Gold Rush days. He also started up a citrus industry on his estate that produced many different fruits including oranges, apples, pears and figs for export to Europe and Japan. In 1876–77 actor/director Edwin Sondheim visited Los Angeles while on a production trip through western America; he recommended moving westward into this new land which would soon be know as "the Golden State". On January 10th of that year Sondheim bought 1/2 mile (3 km) plot of land east of present day Cathedral City along today's U .S . Route 66 for $5 per acre (0·29 ha). With this purchase Sondheim became one of the first people to own land within what is now Riverside County

It is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and just south of Bakersfield. The first people to live in what is now Westminster were the Ohlone Indians. They may have been the first Native Americans to permanently reside in Kern County. In 1853, Captain JamesONeill discovered gold near what is now Westminster and decided to build a settlement there. The first permanent settler was William Sutter who built his house on present-day Sutter Street in 1854. From that point forward, settlers arriving in Kern County began arriving specifically for gold mining purposes rather than farming or ranching as had been done before. In 1860, $10 thousand USD worth of gold was found at Gold Hill (now part of Bakersfield). This led to an influx of immigrants from all over Northern California looking for a piece of this new golden land. At this time, it was considered one of the most important towns in Kern County because it acted as both a commercial center for silver mining operations and also served as headquarters for various government organizations including the Sheriff's Department and courthouse complex which still stand today. Although originally Settlement No. 2 (later called "Settlement No.") predated Gilded Age architecture by more than half a century, it became one of its earliest landmarks with its uniqueScriptural arches dating back to 1865-6 when Elisha Cook built his original adobe house on State Route 99 northwest of downtown Bakersfield (today's University Avenue). A plaque commemorating Cook’s pioneer era can be found outside his former home at 321 W 5th St., Suite 701B btw Second & Third Streets inside City Hall Building where he once resided while Mayor pro tempore." Today's Partnered Community status has resulted from successive mayors taking proactive steps such as initiating annexation proceedings if necessary due to overcrowding issues; although annexation has not yet taken place any meaningful action has been taken towards developing adjacent properties making Westminster one large mixed use community complete with businesses/residential spaces side by side Although smaller than other major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles or San Francisco there are definite advantages associated with having such centralized retail/office space options closer to everyone thereby enabling better transportation options regardless of location!"
