In 1887, they became known as The Gun Sight Company and continued making corrections until 1912 when they merged with another company to become The Browning & Scott Arms Corporation. After World War II, the company expanded its operations into new markets such as Illinois, Texas and Mexico before winding down in the 1960s. Today, portions of the original property where Firearms Improvement Company operated are still used by the business as parking lots or industrial sites while other sections have been turned into housing units or commercial uses including a recently- erected Target store on one section of old site which was once an army ammunition depot.

In 2001, voters passed a referendum that designated West Sacramento as an entity separate fromSacramento County with its own elected officials and budgeting procedures. Today, West Sacramentans enjoy access to world-class education including undergraduate degrees from UC Davis, Cal State Northridge and Western State College; professional opportunities in such fields as law enforcement/firefighting/building/real estate; shopping available at local businesses such as Sears & Roebuck;and excellent nightlife options near downtown west sacramentan In addition To its strong economic base,West Sacramenta has furnished it with some landmark achievements: The city's first public library opened in 1907 on Locust Street (now part of USF East Campus). Today this airport hosts major air travel interests both domestically and internationally

The town of West Sacramento, located in Kern County, California was established on February 6, 1877. The first post office in the community was established on July 1, 1878. The town's name is derived from Sacramento River and White Sands Creek. In 1911, the population of West Sacramento was 2,500 people. By 1930, the population had grown to 10,000 people. In 1935, the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce created a city government for the community with a Mayor and five City Council members. On December 12th of that year, by an act passed by the city council and signed by Mayor Harry Skelton II., West Sacramento became an incorporated city with full political power over its own affairs as well as authority to levy taxes and spend public funds. In 1954-1955 two large projects were accomplished inWest Sacramento; One was construction of the new City Hall which replaced an aging building used since1876; The other project was renovation and improvement of both Central High School (now known as Eastside High School) which date back to 1903 and also housed what is now City Hall until it reopened in 1955 - this project cost $7 million dollars In 1957-1958 another large project took place when Interstate 5 was built through Kern County connecting Los Angeles with Bakersfield; This project affected not onlyWestSacramento but also other adjacent communities including Menifee Canyon to the south east and Winters Camp to the north west. It resulted in increased business for businesses located along I-5 within easy driving distance of either side of Highway 95 .
In 1847, the first permanent business on the current site of West Sacramento was a store run by John Sutter. The name for this location is unknown, but it likely refers to the nearby Mount Sacramento which was at that time part of adobe and woodlands. In 1850, Sutter opened a blacksmith shop and soon became recognized as one of the area's leading businessmen. He also founded what is now known as the Capitol Records Company in 1865, which helped make West Sacramento a center for music production and distribution. In 1907, Sutter donated land to become Cal Expo which served as an expositiongrounds until 1967 when it closed down due to pollution problems. Today, much of the surrounding neighborhood remains vacant and largely unrecognized as HistoricWest Sacramento
