Gun chokes, also known as griping or retention, are a type of choke that are used to prevent the gun from being fired. They typically consist of a metal band around the muzzle of the gun which is tight enough to restrict the flow of air through the barrel and into the lungs, but not so tight that it becomes difficult to breathe. Choke devices were first developed in 1849 by Major John Brownell in response to an attempt by American soldiers at Iuka River, Tennessee to capture General Andrew Jackson’s army. Brownell discovered that if he could keep one side of the soldier’s mouth open while placing his other hand over their windpipe, they were unable to fire their rifles and had to be abandoned. The device became known as a “grip” or “hand hold” choke. The early firearms used ramming devices which forced the bullet down the barrel after impact. This method was particularly effective against muskets but was less reliable with handguns. In 1856, Colonel Richard Mifflin invented a firearm choker using an elaborate system involving two metal plates fixed near both ends of the firearm barrel. When tightened sufficiently, this choke prevented unintentional firing of firearms by preventing access to either lung for breathing. This invention soon spread across Europe and America and was adopted by many law enforcement agencies as well as militias during World War II because it allowed police officers to detain enemy combatants without fear of shooting them. Many jurisdictions still use this choke today in Warrior training programs
There is no one answer to the question of how to stop a gun from firing. A variety of methods can be employed, depending on the type and make of firearm being used. Gun chokes are a common method used to prevent gunfire, but they are not foolproof and should not be relied upon as the sole means of preventing discharge. Gun chokes work by constricting an ammunition feeding device (usually a rifle or shotgun) so that it cannot fire more rounds without being reloaded. The choke must fit snugly into the barrel, which can sometimes require modification to the firearm. Firearms with Republican-style stocks (wherethe stock rests against the user's shoulder), which use a pistol grip instead of an open hand, do not have any choke tubes on them. This leaves these firearms at risk for accidental discharge if either the user or animal mishandles or steps on the muzzle while holding onto the firearm. In such cases, it may be necessary to remove and re-install the choke in order for shooting practice or target practice.

West Hollywood is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 69,711 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles and has been called "the entertainment capital of the world". West Hollywood originally consisted of sections of Echo Park and Western Hills. The first person to set foot on what is now downtown West Hollywood was Anglo-Australian explorer George Vancouver on July 13, 1795. The area that would become West Hollywood was first inhabited by the Tongva people who lived near present-day Paramount Studios. They were displaced by Europeans in 1821 when they were drove out of their land by then ranch owner Antonio Vallejo. Mexican land grants were given to various individuals and families over time, and it wasn't until 1885 that a permanent town site became available when part of Section 1 (now Downtown) was annexed from Boyle Heights. That year, Mayor John D'Angelo opened the first general store in what would become West Hollywood; it cost $3 per month to rent space for it on Main Street. The store soon became a sensation with customers coming from all over Southern California for goods such as candy and flour. In 1920, actor/director Douglas Fairbanks purchased some property east of Sunset Boulevard near where he later built his home – now known asFairbanks Ranch – for use as an animal farm production center during World War I because there was no other place to get meat for troops stationed in Southern California at that time. By 1922, Fairbanks had turned his operation into a movie studio with his own production company which produced films including sound pictures like those made at Universal City Studios up until the early 1960s Today's west side began developing rapidly after World War II thanks largely to two factors: post-war baby boomers moving into formerly working class areas around LAX Airport (then called Gettysburg) and new entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on growing???theatrical industry ???in addition to burgeoning economic opportunities associated with newly established suburbs such as Beverly Hills?Culver City?Hollywood????
West Hollywood was founded on November 3, 1912 by two brothers, Harry and Sam Goldwyn. The area now includes parts of Beverly Hills, California. The Goldwyn brothers first opened a movie theater in West Hollywood called the Adelphi. Their second movie theater was built on Glencoe Avenue in 1924. In 1929, they opened the Goldwyn Plaza Theatre on Wilshire Boulevard in West Hollywood. The theater was demolished in 1986 but the plaza still stands as a historical landmark.
