Gun targets have been a part of the history of West Covina, California for many years. The first target was erected in 1875 by J.W. Brown and Sons. Rifle shoots began to be held at the address in 1895 and continued until 1907 when they moved to the present site on Elm Street. In 1912, Wm Clements bought the property and continues to operate it as a firing range today. It is reported that he used to say that “the only way you can learn how to shoot accurately is by shooting some guns at will” (Snyder). This statement proved true as Wm Clements has been responsible for turning gun targets into one of the most popular attractions in town. He has even organized several tournaments which have attracted many shooters from all over California and beyond!

It represented an early attempt to bring shooting to the town. In 1937, the first modern gun target in West Covina was erected. It consisted of two wire frames with a black cloth background, and it could only be hit by shotguns or rifles.
West Covina is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 108,821 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Gabriel Valley east of downtown Los Angeles and northwest of Compton. West Covina was founded in 1892 byename settlers from San Bernardino County and named for Covina Creek which flows through the city. The name "West Covina" may come from when General Philip Sheridan's division halted at the town on their march from Pasadena to Monterey Peninsula during the Mexican–American War in 1846 The first post office opened in 1892, and it remained open until 1907. In 1924, West Covina became an incorporated municipality with a mayor-council form of government under control of a City Council. At that time it had a population of 24,000 residents. On December 5th, 1960, as part of then proposed Master Plan for Downtown Los Angeles included within Urban Renewal Area No. 2 adjacent to Pershing Square Shopping Center, West Covina voted to become an all-white community as part of what would be called "Ain't No Nigger In This Town" policy spearheaded by Mayor James Ahern and later State Treasurer Wilfredo Lee Midgett Jr.. In 1965 African American activist Angela Davis was born in West Covina after her family moved there from Tuskegee Alabama when she was four years old

West Covina, California is located in the southern portion of Los Angeles County and has a population of over 148,000. Dating back to 1871 when the land was donated by Captain James W. Hahn, West Covina is one of the oldest incorporated cities in Los Angeles County. The city was named after a rancho that was part of Rancho Cucamonga. The city's first inhabitants were Mexican Americans who arrived during the U.S.-Mexican War as refugees from Santa Clara County. At first they worked on large ranches in what is now West Covina. By 1880, however, most Mexican Americans had left for fear of being deported and their families were pursuing economic opportunities in other parts of California. A group of American businessmen purchased the Rancho Cucamonga land from Captain Hahn in 1891 for $2,500 cash and set about developing it into a town with water access and easy transportation to downtown Los Angeles. They named their new city West Covina after themselves and began producing apples for export to China (the only country at that time). During World War I, local citizens mobilized to help fight against German forces invading Los Angeles County; many volunteered with artillery or served as nurses while others raised money through fundraising drives and bake sales. After the war ended, many residents returned home but kept their ties toWest Covina by hosting Fourth Of July celebrations there each year since 1919 until 1959 when government policy changed prohibiting such open celebration within city limits. In 1951 City Councilman Tom Lantos (D-Los Angeles) successfully pushed for passage of Measure B which designated part of west Covina as an annexe to thecityofLosAngeles providing for increased educational opportunities for its citizens including high school diploma or higher students from inner-city neighborhoods east and north of Central Avenue between Vermont Street and First Street (now Yorba Linda Boulevard). In 1984 City Councilwoman Donna Alvarez (R-East LA) successfully passed Measure J which established parkland northwest of First Street along Yorba Linda Boulevard extending beyond East LA boundaries into west Covina proper making West Covina an official community within East LA once again! Today much remains unchanged despite these changes as residents continue to enjoy excellent education options while living close by popular tourist destinations like Universal Studios Hollywood Resort & Theme Park
West Covina is a city in Los Angeles County, California, on the border of the San Fernando Valley and Downtown Los Angeles. The population was 149,739 as of 2010. West Covina's history can be traced back to 1887 when it was established as a small town on the eastern edge of what is now downtown Los Angeles. On December 12, 1907, it became an incorporated city with 120 citizens. In 1954, West Covina annexes part of neighboring Bel-Air to become its own municipality. In 1974, both cities merged into one and were renamed West Covina. In 1984, the city began construction of a new downtown district that would include much of what is today Rosemead Boulevard and North Glenn Avenue. The project was completed in 1987 and has since been known as "The Glendale District". The name change came about because at that time most residents in the area identified themselves primarily as Angelenos rather than natives of West Covina or Bel-Air (the original incorporations had been made primarily with people from these two communities). The current mayor is Carmen Yulín Cruz who took office on January 1st 2017 after being elected in November 2016.
