Gun lights were first invented in 1892 by Major George Washington Patten. The Patten gun light was a metal disk with a white LED light that was affixed to the barrel of a rifle. This type of gun light was used to illuminate the shooter's path while firing live ammunition. In 1912, Edwin Burgess developed the Burgess Gun Light, which became known as the world's first true night vision weapon when it was used on board ships in World War I. The Burgess Gun Light remained popular until it was discontinued in 1935. From 1935 until 1969, all American handguns were equipped with either red or green safety signals called "dot sights." These pistols were typically target or hunting handguns and did not have any other purpose besides being equipped with dot sight guns.

However, when gold was discovered in Northern California it led to an exodus of many miners to San Francisco Bay Area where mining continued until about 1870 due to low prices for gold metadata at that time
In 1853, the first post office in West Covina opened. In 1909, the first telephone service was established in West Covina. In 1935, West Covina became an incorporated city and in 1957 it merged with nearby Glendale to form the current city of Los Angeles.
