Watsonville was founded by Samuel Julius Watson on December 30, 1848 as a farming community near modern-day Dixon to serve as a junction for wagon trains traveling between Stockton and Sacramento. The first post office was established in 1849; it was renamed Watsonville on February 12, 1850 after Samuel Julius's father, who had served in Congress from that state. In 1865, when Interstate 5 opened nearby (and more than two miles away), Watsonville became an important transportation hub with its new principal street becoming I-5 Boulevard. Today there are several significant businesses located within walking distance of each other including KFC/China Buffet/, Barnes & Noble/, Applebee's/Zinfandel wines/, Red Lobster/. There are also several restaurants that serve up local cuisine such as Moo Shu Foo (), Chinese takeout (), Italian restaurant (), etcetera ().

Watsonville is a small town in San Mateo County, California, located on the eastern end of the San Francisco Peninsula. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first permanent residents of Watsonville were European pioneers who arrived in 1847. They named their new town after Sir John A. Watson, an Englishman who had settled in Alameda County in 1839 and then moved upslope to Watsonville Township in 1850. In 1859, Charles Evans Hughes built a sawmill here and soon became one of the most important employers in the town. Hughes also donated land for a public square and schoolhouse which were dedicated on Valentine's Day 1860. In 1870, local farmers founded what would become known as The Mission Chinese Christian School (MCS) which served as a daycare for native-born children from various parts of Northern California until 1924 when it closed its doors due to funding troubles. In 1925, MCS merged with another Chinese educational institution to form Santa Clara College (now Stanford University). The original buildings at 420 First Street still stand today and are used as administrative offices by Santa Clara College’s graduate school and law school faculties; they are also home to the Museum of Modern Art’s Switzer Museum Branch Gallery collection which has been on display there since1972. In 1906, during World War I, many American soldiers stationed along the coast came ashore here for provisions during Operation Neptune's Spear – an amphibious assault campaign against Japanese forces that took place off Sonoma Coastlines including Watsonville on October 17–21 1916. Many local businesses were destroyed or damaged during this time including Pabst Brewing Company which operated out of Nutritional Yeast Factory #1 on Second Street from 1915 until 1949 when it sold its property to Monsanto Co., Inc.. However much more recently significant damage has only occurred to some storefronts associated with agricultural operations such as Brown & Williamson Tobacco Warehouse #3 at 601 Third Avenue from 1951 until 1984 when it was struck by lightning and burned down; however Sears Roebuck & Co.'s store at 408 First Avenue remains standing despite extensive damage caused by fire over twenty years ago During World War II much production took place within structures such as Pabst Brewery #1 (later renamed Wacoal) which operated out of Nutritional Yeast Factory #2 on Second Street from 1915 until 1949 when it sold its property to Monsanto Co., Inc.. In the 1840s, Watsonville was a small fishing village on the coast of California. It was founded by John Sutter, who sailed from Europe in 1839 and landed in California in 1841. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s, thanks to its good harbor and access to natural resources such as coal and lumber. In 1857, Watsonville became the first incorporated city in California.
