Walnut, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Sacramento River, within Walnut Hills Recreation and Park. The first gun magazine in Walnut was established by J.C. Nichols in 1872 as Nichols' Gunsmith Shop No. 1 (later renamed Nichols & Sons). From 1892 to 1912, it was operated under the name of "George Waddell's Gun Magazine". A new magazine building was erected at 5th and I streets in 1912 for use by George Waddell'sGun Store #5 (now known as GASUSA). In 1928, GASUSA merged with Valentine’s Pistol Company to form Valentine-GASUSA Corporation which later became Geary Weapon Corporation. On July 15, 1945 Geary Weapon Corporation merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to become Winchester Firearms Corporation (Winchester Repeating Arms being then an affiliate company of National Rifle Association). At that point both companies were operating out of a new factory complex on Supplemental Street in Walnut Hills (now part of East Palo Alto). In 1949 Winchester Firearms Corporation transferred its firearms operations from Winchester Repeating Arms Factory Complex to their current facility on Garden Grove Avenue near San Francisco State University campus where they remain today as one united corporation

It is bordered by Richmond to the north and east, Modesto to the south and west, and Porterville to the northwest. The first gun magazines were started in Walnut in 1868 by George Waddell and Isaac Tilton as part of their business enterprise Gilt-edged Guns & Ammunition Company. These magazines were used for storage purposes only until 1871 when they became known as Waddell's Magazine Shop. In 1881 Julius Weinman established a gunsmithing shop in Walnut which became known as Weinman's Gunsmith Shop. From 1886 until 1903 there was also an Arsenal Arms Co., Incorporated in Walnut which manufactured firearms including shotguns and pistols under several different brands including American Armory, Colt's Manufacturing Company Firearms Department Store, Purdy Arms & Ammunition store and finally Browning Arms & Machine Works company firearm store before it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company effective July 1st 1903 In 1902 walnut residents William Atherton (1902-2002), Lester Leland (1902-2004)and Rufus Howe (1906-2006) formed a civic group called "The Walnut Group" to promote local development within City limits while preserving its rural character After years of discussion between various members of The Walnut Group There was final action taken on November 15th2002 when zoning changes were made allowing for commercial growth within city limits with exclusive use for handguns On January 25th2006 police responded to reports of gunfire coming from an office building located at 1203 Sutter Avenue after calling from CrimeStoppers tipsters who had received information that shots had been fired inside On arrival officers found four citizens shot deceased; two males aged 20yr old who resided at 2100 block of Elm Street - victim’s father; 24 yr old male resident of 2200 block of Nolie Street - assailant; one female age 22 yrs old who resided at 2400 block Of Ygnacio Avenue – witness

Walnut is a small town in the California Central Valley. The land that makes up Walnut was first cultivated by the Native Americans about 12,000 years ago. The first European to see and visit Walnut was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo on July 20, 1542. In 1838, prospectors discovered walnuts in what is now Kern County and began to sell them throughout Jacksboro and other towns in the valley. By 1860, walnuts were being grown commercially on 3 or 4 farms in the valley. In 1876, when California became a republic, John Sutter bought part of the valley for $15 per acre from the Mexican government as part of his efforts to build an empire across much of California. As Walnut grew into a town, it developed its own school system and economy based on agriculture and trade with surrounding communities. From 1898 until World War II, walnuts were produced at various sites in Walnut until production was discontinued due to competition from other crops such as grapes. Todaywalnuts are still grown where they were first grown-in Jacksboro Township (northwest corner of county), west side of Fresno County (southwest corner), east side of Tuolumne County (northern edge), and east side of Napa County (central edge). This allowed walnuts to be grown throughout most of California without assistance from government support or help from commercial growers; this made them an important factor in promoting agriculture throughout much of Southern California during the early 20th century. The town of Walnut was founded on what is now the east side of Walnut Creek. The first post office was established in Walnut Creek on October 3, 1876. In 1907, Walnut Creek incorporated as a city and soon became one of the most important mining towns in California. It prospered until 1974 when it went through an economic recession and lost its status as a major city. Today, Walnut Creek retains its nickname "the prettiest little town in America" because it has seen few changes since its early days as a boomtown.
